SH29A roundabout at Baypark

SH29A overnight road closure

From Sunday 10 to Thursday 14 March, State Highway 29A between the Maungatapu roundabout and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange will be fully closed in both directions to apply final surfacing around the SH29A roundabout at Baypark. 

Road users will be detoured via SH2, local roads and the Hairini bridge. Truman Lane will be closed to through traffic. Access to Baypark and Truman Lane businesses will be available via Sandhurst interchange and a staffed access point on Truman Lane.

To optimise the road closure and minimise disruption to road users, multiple crews from various roading authorities may be working on different sections of the closed road at the same time.

This is a significant overnight road closure with considerable associated detours, and NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi would like to thank road users for their ongoing patience.

Detour details

From Sunday 10 March to Thursday 14 March 2024 between 7pm and 5am each night:

• SH29A will be fully closed in both directions between the Maungatapu roundabout and SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange.
• Truman Lane will be fully closed in both directions from Mangatawa Link Road to the SH29A roundabout. Access to Truman Lane businesses and Baypark only will be available via Sandhurst interchange and a staffed access point on Truman Lane.
• All light vehicles travelling on SH2 from Tauranga Eastern Link/Pāpāmoa to SH29A/Maungatapu/Welcome Bay, detour via SH2 Bayfair flyover or Maunganui Road north, SH2, Elizabeth Street, Cameron Road, Fifteenth Avenue, Turret Road/Hairini bridge and Welcome Bay Link Road. 
• All light vehicles travelling from SH29A/Maungatapu to Arataki/Matapihi/Mount Maunganui or SH2/Tauranga Eastern Link/Pāpāmoa detour via Welcome Bay Link Road, Turret Road/Hairini bridge, Fifteenth Avenue, Cameron Road, Elizabeth Street and SH2. 
• All heavy and HPMV vehicles travelling to/from SH2/Tauranga Eastern Link/Pāpāmoa and SH29A/Maungatapu/Welcome Bay detour via SH2 Bayfair flyover or Maunganui Road north, SH2, SH29 Takitimu Drive Toll Road and SH29A.

This work is weather dependent. If it is delayed because of weather or other unforeseen issues, it will be carried out on the next suitable night/s.

The final phase at the Bay Link project is underway and involves replacing all existing roads within the extent of the Bay Link site to support heavier and a higher number of vehicles.

People travelling through the area will continue to encounter overnight road and lane closures, and signposted detours. The closures vary night to night, depending on site requirements and progress and people are asked to allow extra time, follow signposted detours and drive with caution through the project site. 

Work is undertaken at night where possible to minimise disruption to people travelling through the area.
