Welcome to our mission: ECIS is deeply committed to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in our world.

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) commitment of ECIS is wholly aligned with our Values and Mission and is integral to our work. ECIS aims to highlight best practices, signpost excellent teaching and learning resources, offer mentorship, promote self-study and effect changes within international schools, working towards equal and just practices.

It is imperative that as educators we embody the desire to learn and to combine reflective practice with a kind, curious and caring approach to creating change in inequitable structures. Our ongoing mission is to create more just, compassionate and sustainable societies.

We aim to create opportunities for educators and students to learn with and from one another. We strive to create a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect and has equal access to opportunities.

Each edition of this termly DEIJ newsletter will focus on one pledge made by a member of our community, asking, “How can we all get closer to achieving that?”

Thank YOU, our dear ECIS community of educator-leaders, for committing to this work, the self-study, the time and resource allocation, and most of all, the will to create meaningful change in our lifetimes.

DEIJ AT LEADERSHIP 2022: WE HEAR YOUR PLEDGES!

At our 2021 conference, we pledged to you that our work in Diversity, Equity, Inclusions and Justice would continue. We hosted a dinner to move the needle even further forward and asked for your pledges to commit further to this work.

We are inspired and will commit to ensuring our resources and programming support your goals over the coming year.

The ECIS DEIJ Leadership Development Cohort is designed for international school educators looking to move beyond the cycle of “one and done” workshops related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

Cohort members will engage in development work throughout the 2022-2023 school year. This will include a combination of group learning, peer feedback, action planning, and personal development. Ideal candidates will include school leaders, middle leaders, and informal leaders seeking feedback, guidance, and support with emerging DEIJ efforts in their school communities.

Our goal is to create a diverse learning community for this inaugural cohort of a maximum of 20 participants. The registration application asks questions that will guide our selection for this diverse group. It may be that despite being strong candidates, some applicants are not selected for this initial cohort. ECIS will nevertheless stay in touch and engaged with all applicants.

To provide our schools with a starting point in their journey towards a more inclusive world, ECIS together with our partner, The Global Equality Collective, have launched an app that simplifies the process of working towards equality, diversity, and inclusion. Our member schools can download the app for a special price of £250. It features 2 simple checkbox assessments to monitor your school’s equality and inclusion status: one checklist for the leadership team, and one for the employees.
