SH6 Nelson to Greymouth

SH6 Rocks Road

Night works to install mesh on the cliff face to help prevent rockfalls will run from the evening of Sunday 25 January to the morning of Thursday 29 January. Crews will work 6pm to 5am, and stop/go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit will be in place during the night work hours. Drivers should expect delays up to 10 minutes. During the day, both lanes of the road will be open.

SH6 North Road, 2.5km east of Kohatu

Work to help prevent surface flooding continues until Friday 30 January. Crews will work Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm. This weekend – from the evening of Friday 23 January to the morning of Monday 26 January – both lanes will be open but a 50km/h temporary speed limit will be in place. During the week, stop/go traffic management is in place, and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit applies 24/7. The work includes installing culverts under the highway and rock revetments to protect it. Once this work is completed the affected area will be resurfaced.

SH6 Korere

Road rebuild work is underway until Friday 20 February. Crews are operating Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm (although work may be required some weekends). Stop/go traffic management is in place, and a 30km/h temporary speed limit applies during work hours. After hours, a temporary speed limit remains in place due to the uneven road surface. Drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes. No work will take place during the first week of February (that is, between the Nelson Anniversary and Waitangi Day weekends) to avoid disrupting holiday traffic.
