Calvary Brighton-Le-Sands | Staff Memorandum

Date:       23 March 2022

To:           All Staff – Calvary Brighton-Le-Sands

From:      Amanda Bennett, General Manager Aged Care

Subject:   Annual Leave

Dear All,

Firstly, a sincere thankyou to all of you for your commitment to our residents, and the changing and challenging environment over the last 2+ years.

As you are aware we continue to face recruitment challenges in the aged care sector, which has meant that despite huge efforts from our Recruitment teams, Home Managers, and Administration staff, sometimes our committed staff have not been able to take the leave they have applied for, along with a heightened sense of responsibility to present for their shifts and for us to consider any leave applications with scrutiny.

In saying this, this memo is to remind all staff members around the application and approval process for annual leave:

  • Annual leave should be taken each year at times mutually agreed between the Home Manager and the staff member concerned, always taking into account the operational needs of the home.
  • All staff must apply for annual leave using the Leave Application form. The form provides for Home Manager’s to approve leave subject to leave availability.
  • Please note this is an application only and does not mean that employee’s automatically have this time off. Any holiday bookings etc. should not be arranged until the Home Manager has agreed to the application.
  • All requests for annual leave require at least four weeks’ notice. In the case of an emergency (where 4 weeks’ notice cannot be given), staff may discuss the situation with the Home Manager and the approval will be based on a case by case basis where consideration will be given to a range of factors. Approval is not automatic.
  • Responses to all employee annual leave applications will be provided within 4 weeks’ of receipt of the Application by the Employer, except during peak leave periods. Peak Leave periods include Christmas/New Year holidays and Easter holidays.

If you have requested a period of leave that is unable to be granted, please discuss alternate dates with your Home Manager, and propose any alternate solutions to reach a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Should you have any questions in relation to the Leave Procedure, or this memo please contact your Home Manager.

Yours sincerely,

Amanda Bennett
