January 2024  |  Newsletter No.3

Welcome to the January edition of the CaneRise newsletter. We’re showcasing some new tools and resources, funding, events, and featuring Bessie and Sam Orr from Proserpine as our new Grower Story.

With the potential of (more) wild weather on the way over the coming days, we hope everyone stays safe and there’s minimal disruption to farm activities. However, if you do catch a break inside and have a spare moment, we'd love to hear your thoughts on the CaneRise feedback survey. We’ve extended it for just a few more days so that you can tell us what you think.

Bessie’s farming for the future

Two farmers checking the soil under a clear sky.

For Bessie Orr and her husband Sam, looking into the future while valuing the past is a point of pride. They’re progressive cane farmers who are keen to try new things, uplift their community and prioritise sustainability. They have a deep well of family knowledge and support to tap into, and they see succession planning as crucial.
