IOT COVID-19 SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATE:
13 May 2022
Following the changes to local COVID response measures implemented on 28 April 2022, the IOT subcommittee has been carefully monitoring the IOT COVID caseload and the impact of eased restrictions in WA on case numbers there.
As expected, cases in WA have risen sharply following their easing of restrictions.
In line with our communications at the end of April, we have now reviewed the current settings for the IOT related to mandatory mask-wearing and the requirement for pre-travel rapid antigen testing for inter-island travellers.
Based on expert public health advice on the local COVID situation and the still escalating WA caseload, there will be no
changes to IOT settings at this time. Mandatory masks and testing prior to inter-island travel will remain in place.
A further review on IOT COVID management policies, including the above requirements, will take place as scheduled by 28 May 2022.
Public health advice confirms that the IOT remains in a very different stage of COVID transmission and management to WA and the rest of Australia, with the requirements remaining in place playing a critical role in mitigating risks from the current spread of COVID being experienced in CI and CKI. As always, our prudent and cautious approach is key to the protection of our remote communities.
It is critical that travellers comply with entry requirements and, most importantly,
do not travel if experiencing symptoms, regardless of test outcomes.
