SH76 Brougham Street upgrade

SH76 Brougham Street upgrade - night work

6 October 2023

We're going to be working at night

From Monday 9 October until Friday 20 October between 8pm and 6am we'll be working during the night along Brougham Street, between Barrington Street and Wilsons Road.

The work is being done at night while the road is quieter and to avoid traffic delays during the day on this busy road.

We won't be working on Saturday or Sunday nights, except for Sunday 15 October.

The contractor is potholing to investigate ground conditions and the location of underground services, which is important to help progress our design for the planned upgrade along Brougham Street.

We're sorry for any disruption and thank you for your patience while we work in your area.

What to expect during the work

Isaac Construction will be using a hydro excavator to dig small holes to check the location of underground services.

If you live along Brougham Street near where the crews are working, you may hear the noise from the hydro vac truck. It uses high pressure water to avoid damage to underground services and the compacting to refill the hole can cause ground vibration.

Where possible, the noisiest work will be completed earlier in the night to limit noise disruption as much as possible.

The crews will spend around 1.5 hours at each location before moving onto the next area. There are a total of 72 test locations within the berm, footpath, outer lane/parking areas and within the central median island.

The holes from each of these investigations will be backfilled, compacted and sealed before the crews move to the next location.

Work will start from Barrington Street and will continue east towards Wilsons Road over 14 night shifts. We will be working on both the north and south side of Brougham Street.

Most of the work can be done in light rain. If heavy rain is forecast there may be some delays.

Traffic impacts

  • The crew will work in the road, footpath and road shoulder area. Road cones and signage will direct traffic.
  • There will be lane closures on Brougham Street.
  • A temporary 30kmph speed limit will be in place where we're working for the safety of our workers.
  • When work is being done in the footpath, pedestrians will be guided around the work area.
  • On-street parking may be affected in the areas where we're working.
  • Access to properties will be maintained. We may need to work in front of driveways from time to time. If you live along Brougham Street and we're in your way, please just talk to one of our friendly staff and we'll make sure you can use your driveway.
  • Please follow on-site signage to keep yourself and workers safe.
