Welcome back whānau mā!  

We’re absolutely stoked to let you know that Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou is gaining even more momentum across Porirua, and although this is a short pānui it is full of exciting news! 

In this edition, we’ve put the spotlight on another one of our Reimagining workshops. Our last Reimagining workshop in Hune/Hūrae (June/July) focused on dental and oral health services, for the month of Ākuhata (August), we focused on our Tāngata Whaikaha (Disabled people) community. 

We will also highlight the launch of the Porirua Hauora Network, a space created for Porirua providers to participate in impactful kōrero, create meaningful connections across services, and more importantly – indulge in some delicious kai!

REIMAGINING WORKSHOP - TĀNGATA WHAIKAHA (DISABILITY PEOPLE) COMMUNITIES

In the month of Ākuhata (August), Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou hosted another fantastic Reimagining Workshop with our Tāngata Whaikaha (Disabled people) community!  

Passionate Tāngata Whaikaha representatives participated in a focus group, engaging in courageous discussions about their personal realities and lived experiences around accessing and self-identification within healthcare systems in Porirua.  

On behalf of the Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou project team, we want to express our gratitude to all the whānau who took part in these workshop sessions

Our next steps:  

• Theming main discussion points that were agreed upon by the group  

• Creating an options paper with recommendations  

• Sharing the options with the focus group – FIRST  

• Sharing the options paper on NEW website (link to attach) 

• Recommendations to our Community Governance Group  

• Work with Te Whatu Ora on contracting services for new initiatives

 PORIRUA HAUORA NETWORK

Lots of “firsts” this time around!  

On the first day of spring, and on the first of Hepetema (September), Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou project team launched the FIRST event for the Porirua Hauora Network!  

The launch of the Porirua Hauora Network event was an opportunity, to connect and create relationships between our formal and informal groups who share an interest and passion in achieving equitable hauora (health & wellbeing) outcomes for whānau in Porirua.  

Huge mihi to all those who joined us from various hauora (health & wellbeing) services in Porirua, contributing to the success of this event!  

The next event for the Porirua Hauora Network will be
18th October 2023!

UPCOMING: REIMAGINING WORKSHOP MENTAL HEALTH

Our next Reimagining Workshop is nearly here!  

Dates: Tuesday 3rd & Wednesday 4th October 2023  

Time: 9:30am – 2:30pm  

Location: TBC  

All participants will need to attend both days but will receive $150 vouchers as a compensation for your time and kōrero/talanoa/ discussion.  
 

If you meet the criteria below, register with us now!: 

• Between the ages 18 – 30 years old  

• Lived experiences with mental health services in Porirua  

• Currently reside in Porirua.
   

We are looking for up to 12 passionate Porirua community members who have lived mental health experiences and accessed mental health services in Porirua, to be part of a focus group.  

The goal of these workshops is to facilitate community-driven change and have input into redesigning the delivery of mental health services in Porirua.
