Thriving vs Surviving Event Series: Navigating the Challenges of Grad School (Winter 2023)A three-part event series providing tips and strategies on managing common challenges grad students experience during their studies is being offered by the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (PMC) in collaboration with campus partners. This series will cover common issues related to
academic writing, navigating the supervisor and graduate student relationship, and student wellness. All are welcome to attend. Registration with PMC is not essential for participation in this event series. We kindly ask you to review our meeting guidelines before attending. Key Principles of Academic Writing: Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Navigating the Graduate Supervisor and Student Relationship: Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Coping with Multiple Commitments in Graduate School: Tuesday, March 14, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration is free for all sessions but required to attend. Registration closes two days prior to each event. All sessions will not be recorded for confidentiality purposes. If you would like a copy of the presentations after the event, have any questions about the event series or missed the registration deadline, please contact Laura at laurahnatiw@cunet.carleton.ca. Attendance at all three events in the series is not required. Please register and attend the session(s) that fit your schedule and needs best!

Reminder: Emergency Notification System Test on February 21, 2023
Carleton’s Emergency Notification System (ENS) has been modernized to make it more reliable. A test of the upgraded system will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at approximately 1:15 p.m. This test will include three types of notifications: campus computer screen messages, emails sent out to all Carleton University addresses, and a push notification through the new Carleton Mobile app. All alerts will clearly indicate this is a test of the system. Please note campus
computer and Carleton Mobile alerts may include a noise. The Carleton Mobile ENS test will appear as a push notification which can be dismissed. No further action will be required once the test is complete. To ensure you receive ENS alerts on your mobile device, please download the Carleton Mobile app on the Apple App Store or Google Play and ensure you enable notifications under your mobile device settings. Media Training Workshops in February and March
Are you looking for guidance on how to engage with reporters and promote your research? Or do you want to know what to expect when you agree to participate in a media interview? Sign up for a virtual media training workshop that looks at the changing media landscape and provides tips for successfully and professionally interacting with journalists. Register for workshops on either Feb. 23, 2023 (10:30 a.m. to noon) or Mar. 3, 2023 (1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.)

THE 2023 THREE-MINUTE THESIS (3MT) Contest is On!
The annual 3MT contest will be held on March 17, 2023 in-person this year! The 3MT challenges grad students to communicate the key concepts of their research in a compelling presentation of three minutes or less. The contest prizes consist of the following: first place prize is $750, second place prize is $400, third place prize is $250, and one “people’s choice” prize of $150. Did You Know Grad Students Have Their Own Mental Health Counsellor?
Magda Georgescu is a counsellor with Carleton’s Health and Counselling Services who is focused on helping graduate students. To
make a free appointment with Magda, please call the office at 613-520-6674. Once you call, you will speak with a Patient Care Coordinator who will send you an intake and consent form that needs to be completed before speaking with an Intake Counsellor. This intake session can also take place in person at the clinic, if that is your preference, and then you will be able to meet with Magda.

Psychology Wellness Centre
The Psychology Wellness Centre is a virtual centre staffed by psychology graduate students who are trained peer wellness coaches. Navigating the Canadian Workplace Workshop Series and International Alumni Panel
Navigating the Canadian Workplace is a virtual workshop series by Career Services, designed to support international students, and students who are newcomers to Canada, explore strategies for finding work in Canada. This is a self-directed workshop series, meaning you can complete the individual workshops at your own pace. Topics
include: Canadian Workplace Culture and Introduction to the Canadian Hiring Process. Registration is open now and the workshops will be available until March 20 for the winter term. the Canadian Workplace: International Alumni Panel on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event is a complement to the online workshop series but is open to all students. There will be alumni panellists from a variety of industries who will speak about their workplace experiences and share their insights and advice.
