Formal complaint submitted to Ombudsman on Four Corners NT story.

Cotton Australia is awaiting a response from ABC’s Ombudsman to its formal complaint following the broadcast of a Four Corners story on NT cotton titled ‘Water Grab’ On August 19 this year. 

The program portrayed a one-sided view of the industry, disregarded legitimate scientific research, made conclusions based on repeated claims by activists, promoted the since-failed electoral ambitions of a key opponent of the industry, and irresponsibly raised alarmist claims about possible catastrophic outcomes and a devastated tourism industry.

National Farmer Rally

The National Farmers' Federation (NFF) is calling on farmers to join a rally in Canberra on 10 September to counter ‘anti-farming agendas’ that are increasingly influencing decisions in Canberra. The rally is an opportunity to highlight a broader range of farmer concerns: from new taxes to the impact of water buybacks and energy infrastructure.

Making every drop count on cotton farms

The cotton industry’s 2025 Nuffield Farming Scholarship recipient, Moree-based agronomist Kate Lumber aims to use her opportunity to improve the profitability of the sector through improved resilience and water efficiency.

Kate’s study topic is centred around growing cotton in areas with limited water and gaining a better understanding of how to grow reliable crops through cotton physiology and the farming system, particularly as it relates to semi-irrigated crops.
