Santos in the Community Moving forward with project approvals
Image: Santos values its role as a local employer in the communities where we operate Welcome to the latest edition of the NSW Monthly Activities Update. Santos remains committed to progressing approvals for the Narrabri gas field and associated pipelines, and we look forward to being in a position to take a final investment decision as soon as all necessary approvals are in place. For the team of almost 20 staff Santos employs locally, this means progressing land access negotiations, engaging with the community at events, delivering consultative meetings, administering our community grants program and keeping our infrastructure well maintained and operational. You can meet one of the newest members of this team, electrical apprentice Luke, in the 'Santos Careers' section below. It also means continuing power generation at our Wilga Park Power Station near Narrabri. Gas from our appraisal wells supplies the power station, which has an electricity generation capacity of 22 megawatts - equivalent to the power needs of 32,000 households. The gas-fired station feeds into the Walgett/Brewarrina electricity network, ensuring energy security and reliability to these remote communities. Looking forward, Santos will be changing the publication frequency of this update from monthly to quarterly - bringing the newsletter schedule into line with Santos' other Australian operational updates. This is the final monthly edition, with the next update to be published at the end of September. We look forward to sharing more stories and updates with you then. In the meantime, please feel free to contact our community team if you need information or have feedback to share. Narrabri Gas Project
The Narrabri Gas Project involves the development and production of natural gas near Narrabri in New South Wales. Santos has committed 100 per cent of Narrabri gas to the east coast domestic market, helping to bring energy security to the region and putting downward pressure on gas and electricity prices for homes, manufacturers and businesses. If you would like more information about this project, please contact our team via email at Energy.NSW@santos.com or give us a call on (02) 6790 9235. You can also visit the NGP website.

Image: Electrical apprentice Luke is based at Santos' Narrabri Operations Centre With a family history in resources, Luke was always destined for a hands-on career. The first-year tradesman began his Electrical and Instrumentation apprenticeship with Santos in January, based at the Narrabri Operations Centre. Most days, you'll find him at our power station in Narrabri, where he's mastering daily checks on wellheads, performing diagnostics, fault-finding and preventative maintenance. It's a busy schedule, balanced with six study days each month at TAFE, but Luke says he has a supportive team behind him.
Working on a Lifestyle roster, Luke says he also has plenty of time to enjoy his hobbies during his downtime. "It's great, I love it, I get to do what I want to do," he said. "I just recently bought a motorbike, so I've just been going around, riding that everywhere." Looking ahead, Luke has big ambitions - he's keen to experience offshore work with Santos and focus on his career development across our diverse operations. Community PartnershipsPutting Food on the Shared Table
Image: Santos Community and Stakeholder Adviser, Abby McClure, helping cook the Shared Table BBQ For the dedicated volunteers who run the Shared Table Community Kitchen in Narrabri, showing care and kindness towards those in need is second nature. The not-for-profit has been providing low-cost groceries, free meals and warm conversation to those enduring homelessness and severe financial strain for over a decade - ensuring these challenging times are not faced alone. As a longstanding sponsorship partner, Santos has donated more than $3000 worth of goods to Shared Table this year - including a new freezer for the kitchen which will help increase food storage capacity and support the organisation's growing community services. Staff from our local community and operations teams also stopped by earlier this month to help cook one of the free BBQ lunches provided by Shared Table every Friday. Santos Community and Stakeholder Adviser, Abby McClure, said it was rewarding to see how the grant funds were being used.
Santos is proud to support this fantastic organisation as part of our commitment to leaving a positive legacy in the communities where we operate. |
