Spatial Insights, the latest news from DCS Spatial Services, June 2025 Edition.

Welcome to the June 2025 edition of Spatial Insights

This month, we’re excited to bring you a range of updates that highlight improvements across our digital platforms and essential support for the spatial and surveying community.

First up, we’ve launched the upgraded Spatial Collaboration Portal, providing a more intuitive and efficient user experience. Whether you're new to spatial data or a regular user, the redesigned platform makes it easier than ever to access tools, viewers and datasets.

We've made the Spatial Digital Twin (SDT) Explorer even easier to use, thanks to a new help guide and a suite of video tutorials. These resources focus on key addressing functions, such as address search, address layers and the identify tool, making it simpler to find property information across NSW.

For the surveying community, we’ve released an updated Surveyor-General’s Direction No. 6 – Water as a Boundary Procedures, aligning with the 2024 regulation and offering improved clarity and submission options.

And finally, see how our team rapidly delivered detailed flood imagery in response to ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred, helping support emergency services and isolated communities in Western NSW. Read on for these stories and more in this month’s edition.

Highlights from BOSSI’s annual candidate surveyor's workshop

The Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) hosted its highly anticipated annual workshop at Kurri Kurri TAFE recently, bringing together 52 attendees, including 40 aspiring surveyors and 12 mentors.

This event is a great platform for candidates to connect with seasoned professionals, gain insights into the land and mining surveyor registration process in NSW, and delve into real-world project reviews.

BOSSI Board members and examiners delivered engaging presentations, sharing valuable guidance and experiences to support the next generation of surveyors. The two days fostered meaningful networking, allowing attendees to ask questions, exchange ideas and build professional relationships.

Feedback this year has been overwhelmingly positive, reaffirming the importance of events like this in nurturing talent and strengthening our surveying community.

BOSSI is committed to continuing this journey of mentorship and professional growth, empowering future leaders in the field.

Rapid response: Capturing flood imagery after Cyclone Alfred

In response to post ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred flood events in Western NSW, DCS Spatial Services was requested to capture flood imagery by the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).

Imagery was captured over the Bourke Shire region using a multispectral sensor with red, green, blue and Near Infrared (NIR) colour bands.

The NIR colour band enhances visualisation of water bodies and vegetation, enabling better analysis of flood extent and impact.

Our team’s efficient planning and execution ensured we delivered detailed flood imagery within 24 hours. Which helped to support NSW emergency services and isolated communities in the state’s west. This imagery is available in the NSW Flood Imagery Viewer.

Celebrating Equality Green in Pride Month

Equality Green in Prince Alfred Park is a landmark that stands as a powerful symbol of unity, love, and progress.

Officially assigned by the Geographical Names Board on 21 August 2020, Equality Green commemorates a defining moment in Australia’s history.

On 15 November 2017, this space became the heart of a national movement as 30,000 people gathered to hear the results of the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey.

At 10am the announcement came. Over 60% of Australians voted 'yes' to marriage equality. The crowd erupted - a wave of celebration, relief and joy swept through the park.

The name Equality Green now permanently marks this moment in time, a tribute to the courage and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies.

Throughout Pride Month, we remember that moment and celebrate inclusion and equality.

New ingestion data pipeline enables you to take control of your data

DCS Spatial Services is pleased to introduce the Automated Infrastructure Data Pipeline (AIDP) that will be publicly available on the Customer Hub from July 2025.

The AIDP is a new, optimised platform designed to support the streamlined delivery of spatial data, placing data custodians (local government councils and other government agencies) in full control of their data and metadata.

With a user-friendly interface and built-in quality assurance, AIDP simplifies how spatial data is ingested and shared.

Early engagement will help your agency get familiar with the platform. The introduction of the AIDP is a key milestone in ensuring data custodians have more control of their agency’s data through this secure, easy-to-use and reliable platform.

Support will be available to help guide data custodians through the onboarding process. However,
organisations must be registered to upload data and sign a data sharing agreement or make a general enquiry. If you want to learn more, please enquire via our Customer Hub.
