National Science Week Talk: Anthropologist
Kirk Huffman

An estimated 150 million traditionally-oriented peoples still survive in pockets of today's world, but the world usually pays little attention to them. Kirk Huffman is an anthropologist who has also studied prehistoric archaeology and ethnology. He has pursued cultural fieldwork amongst traditionally-oriented populations in the Maghreb, parts of the Sahara, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, northern Colombia and in the western Mediterranean.

Creative postcards workshop
Thursday 17 August, 6 - 8pm
In 1978, French writer and member of OuLiPo group, Georges Perec published a text titled 243 postcards in real colour. Join us for a night of mixed media postcard creativity held by an artist and researcher Dr Tatiana Bonch-Osmolovskaya. The participants of the workshop will learn about the experimental writing techniques Perec used to create his postcard greetings. Similar to Perec, you will write your own postcard messages applying both random and structured methods of design.
