Second-Year Experience

Second-Year Experience (SYE) is packed with events designed to reconnect you with your classmates and reintroduce you to the many resources and opportunities Penn has to offer.

Beginning shortly after Move-In, SYE events will bring the Class of 2029 together to explore intellectual and cultural spaces both on campus and throughout Philadelphia. From the Second-Year Celebration: Summer Soirée at the Penn Museum to a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Be sure to check your email for more information about additional SYE events and opportunities hosted by your Class Board.

We also encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by our office throughout the academic year, including the Second-Year Experience (SYE) Grant and the Penn Mentor Meals program.

Second-Year Celebration: Summer Soirée at the Penn Museum

Class of 2029 Class Board Presents: Celebrate the start of your second year with an unforgettable evening at the Penn Museum!

Explore world-renowned galleries filled with extraordinary artifacts from ancient civilizations, stroll through the Museum's beautiful gardens, and enjoy desserts, music, dancing, and live performances by fellow Penn students!

In addition, the evening will feature the inaugural Battle of the DJs! Student DJs will keep the energy going throughout the night, making this a perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends and kick off the year together. Attend the Phillies Game!

Did you hear? We’re giving away 500 free tickets for the Class of 2029 to see the Philadelphia Phillies take on the Atlanta Braves!

Join your classmates at Citizens Bank Park on Friday, September 4, from 6–9pm for an exciting night of baseball. Presented in collaboration with Class of 2029 Class Board, this is your chance to cheer on the Phillies at their home stadium.

Tickets will be distributed by the Class Board at SYE events such as the Class Board Pop-Up and See & Sip!

Second-Year Experience Grant

Throughout the academic year, we are committed to the development of Penn’s Second-Year Experience (SYE) program, which is designed specifically to address the unique needs of second-year students. SYE supports signature events such as Second-Year Celebration: Summer Soirée at the Penn Museum, Second-Year Day and U-Night, in addition to other programs that are planned by your request.

Our office can assist with marketing for your event and/or provide grants up to $250. Itemized budgets are required, and preference for these competitive grants will be given to requests that use funds for programming beyond food, drink, & refreshments.

In order to be eligible for a grant, your group needs to have a 26-digit budget code with the University of Pennsylvania or work with a department that does and can journal the funds to you. Please fill out the application form, and our office will reach out to you via email.

Please note that one organization is only allowed to receive one grant during one academic year. All grants will be considered if submitted at least 1 week in advance of the event. If you have any questions, please email provost-nso-ai@pobox.upenn.edu.
