Good morning, Michigan families! May you draw closer to Christ as we continue to worship together. We are currently on day #6 (of 10) in our family worship idea on obedience. Review - Definition of obedience. Obedience is willingly, promptly, and cheerfully doing whatever an authority asks. Another word for obedience is submission.
- Discuss and memorize
- Philippians 4:13
- Luke 22:42b ...not my will, but thine be done.
Read Discuss - "Who was directing Jesus' life and
actions?"
- "What did Jesus say about His obedience to His Father?" (He always did what pleased His Father.)
- "We should make it our goal to let our lives be guided by the Holy Spirit, as Jesus did. We should want to always please the Father, too."
Read - Mark 14:36 - Review what is happening in this verse.
- Hebrews 5:7-9
Discuss - "This Scripture passage is referring to Jesus' life on earth. Verse 7 is particularly talking about Jesus' prayer in the garden, when He asked His Father to not have Him die on the cross, if it were possible."
- "Even though Jesus was perfect in that He never sinned, He still had to experience what it was like to obey when what His Father asked was hard to do. Because Jesus experienced this kind of obedience, He fully understands what it feels like for us when we find it hard to obey." (verse 8)
- "When verse 9 talks about Jesus being made perfect, it is not saying that Jesus was imperfect or less than completely good. It is saying that Jesus matured in His obedience through conquering His own will in order to submit to His Father's will."
Pray - Pray that we could be obedient, as Jesus was, even when it is very hard.
Scripture Song - “I Have Learned in Whatsoever" Philippians 4:11
