Learn more during Native American & Alaska Native Heritage Month!

Did you know that American Indian and Alaska Native patients have a rate of contracting tuberculosis that is greater than 8 times that of non-Hispanic Caucasians? This is just one of many health disparities that we as healthcare providers can work to help reduce and eliminate through education and action! Check out the post to the left to learn more about the gaps in healthcare for these patients.

Student travel reimbursement policy update

Please note the following clarification to the PCP student reimbursement travel policy "Unless otherwise approved by the PCP Dean’s office, only the following expenses will be reimbursed: Travel (air/train), meeting registration and hotel accommodations and only up to the total amount approved. All receipts must be in the student name. Do not split hotel accommodation or other expenses by paying each other." This means that all hotels bills must be split and put on individual student credit cards - all hotels will do this. The full travel policy can be found on the PCP Student Google site. November is Native American & Alaska Native Heritage Month!

You can find more information about Native American Heritage at the button below. For 2023, The US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Affairs has adopted the following theme: Celebrating Tribal Sovereignty and Identity. Please click here to access a list of resources with information about Native American & Alaska Native heritage in the United States and about the Lenape, the tribe that inhabited this region before European colonization (you’ll learn about the connection between the Lenape and names you'll know, like Kingsessing).

Throughout the month of November, members of the PCP DEI Task Force will work with members of the PCP community to create STP posts to celebrate Native American heritage and culture and to learn more about health disparities that exist in this population. Please send us suggestions for ideas of topics to explore in STP at the button below. Posted by Dr. Thomas. 11/6
