Completion of SH2/Hebden Crescent intersection safety improvements
We’re pleased to advise that the safety improvement work at the two State Highway 2 (SH2)/Hebden Crescent intersections in the Hutt Valley is now complete. Despite some weather disruptions, the work has been completed largely on schedule.
As a result of the work, two intersections with poor safety records are now safer, while avoiding changes that would cause congestion or delays for the majority of SH2 users.
The Hebden Crescent intersection by Liverton Road has been converted to allow left-hand turns in and out, only. The ability to turn right has been removed and the median barrier extended to make it continuous. The intersection at Hebden Crescent near Owen Street has been closed to vehicles and road users will use Hebden Crescent by Liverton Road, or the Haywards Interchange for access.
Whilst the work will improve safety and avoid causing congestion on this section of SH2, the changes have impacted journeys for local residents and businesses. As with any work of this nature, we will continue to monitor its impact and will consider any actions that might be necessary should any new, unforeseen issues be identified.
Although the work at both intersections is complete, there is some remaining signage on Hebden Crescent and SH2 that will be installed over the coming weeks.
