BSC Board Director Opportunities Available
The Battery Stewardship Council (BSC) is seeking three experienced leaders to join
its Board. The successful candidates will be committed to battery stewardship and contribute sound experience and knowledge of governance, risk management, regulatory environments and government engagement. Directors play an essential role in informing and supporting the strategic direction of the Scheme as we work to achieve our objectives to create a circular economy for batteries in Australia. The three Non-Executive Director positions include: - Independent Board Director: This candidate will provide insights and advice on strategy and governance issues such as risk and compliance, as well as management of conflicts of interest, complaints and dispute resolution.
- Board Director for Power Tool Stewardship: This candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the power tool sector to help drive the Scheme forward, ensuring it meets all stewardship objectives and obligations.
- Board Director for Emerging Battery Products and Technologies: This candidate, representing a new category for BSC, will have
thorough knowledge of emerging products and technologies. This includes electric vehicles, energy storage, portable energy storage and light means of transport.

Thank you to outgoing Board Director Michael Brendle
Michael Brendle, Group Managing Director, Milwaukee Tools Australia , has stepped down from the role of Board Director for BSC. Michael Brendle has represented the interests of importers and retailers in the power tool sector since joining the Board in 2021.
Michael played a central role in bringing the B-cycle Scheme to fruition and ensuring its successful implementation. His leadership and collaboration has been pivotal in helping us achieve our mission and deliver on our obligations to B-cycle participants and the Australian community.
Michael’s strategic vision for battery stewardship has guided the evolution of B-cycle and allowed us to deliver on our promise to rapidly increase access to battery recycling. His decades of experience in senior management provide him with a unique perspective, combining a passion for sustainability, an understanding of the challenges of running a world-leading company, and the priorities and constraints faced by importers.
We extend our gratitude to Michael for his leadership and service to BSC and look forward to working together through our partnership with TTI as a valued member of the BSC.
July 1 changes to rebate payments
Rebate payments will increase for the upcoming financial year. The BSC Board has approved these increases to help offset the rising Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the growing cost of living. For collections, sorting and processing completed from 1st July, there will be an 8.4% increase across those rebate types.
The BSC welcomes new Participants to B-cycle: Paslode, Charged Battery, Ramset
and Microsoft. Together, we make a strong commitment to sustainability, and to
building a closed-loop lifecycle for batteries in Australia.
B-cycle accreditation gives confidence to Australian consumers and industry that
used batteries are safely managed, recycled and remade into something new. This
process reduces the environmental impact, conserves resources and supports
Australia’s transition to a circular economy.
We look forward to working with these Participants, and all Importers, Manufacturers,
Retailers, Drop off points, Collectors, Sorters and Processors.

Whilst we all know that using rechargeable batteries can significantly extend the
lifespan of your devices, it's important to acknowledge that even rechargeable
batteries have a finite life cycle. Eventually, they too need to be properly recycled to
minimise their impact on the environment.
