The 22km Hamilton section of the Waikato Expressway is now in its final year of construction and the latest quarterly update has a graphic and explanation of what’s ahead at the busiest area – the Southern Interchange at Tamahere.
Another busy site is Powells Road at Fairview Downs, where an underpass is being built for traffic to go under the expressway. We detail progress there and also have the usual project progress pics centrespread.
Millions of native plants are used in landscaping along the four-lane highway and the Hamilton section has passed the 500,000-plant mark. The remaining 370,000 plants will go in the ground next autumn/winter, ahead of the expressway opening late in 2021.
