This Week's Summary

While construction continued at several sites across the Marlborough Roads Recovery network this week, progress was slowed by last week's rainfall.

Surveillence has identified suspicious activity at several Marlborough Roads Recovery construction sites. We encourage anyone who notices anything unusual to please contact us.

With the exception of Northbank Road, all sites are under stop/go traffic management.

Work continues at three sites in the French Pass, located on Croisilles Road, Croisilles-French Pass Road, and Archers Road.

In the Kenepuru, between Linkwater and the Heads, work is underway in the following areas

  • Friday from 9.30am to 12pm, 12.30pm to 3pm.

This closure will allow multiple road repairs to be completed concurrently and safely. Gates will be in place at each end of the closure and at working sites. Outside of the closure times stop/go traffic management may be in place with delays of up to 15 minutes.

Traffic management will ensure that vehicles do not get stuck between closure points during the opening times.

Crews are continuing minor drainage repairs and pavement stabilisation work approximately 1km before Okiwi Bay.

Kenepuru

On Moetapu Bay Road, approximately 1.3km from the start of the road, crews are continuing slip excavation and have commenced the installation of a culvert.

At four adjacent sites approximately 3km before the Mahau Road turn-off, crews have installed a site rail and continue the retaining wall and pavement construction. Road sealing is planned to start next week, pending suitable weather conditions.

Work has resumed at one site on Kenepuru Road, between the Mahau Road intersection and Broughton Bay to construct a retaining wall.

On Kenepuru Road, near Portage Bay, approximately 1.5km prior to Portage Resort, crews are continuing the excavation, gully fill, and drainage installation.

There are four sets of traffic lights across the above sites, with delays of up to 15 minutes at each site.

On Torea Road, crews are continuing to progress the road retreat. This site is also under traffic lights with delays of up to 15 minutes.

---------------------------------------------------

The Waitaria Bay Jetty is currently open to the public with the new jetty fully decked and the floating pontoon connected. Crews have resumed work on the first section of the jetty to install new handrails and ladders. Construction signage remains in place, please be mindful of all notices.

Pavement construction on Kenepuru Road

Northbank

Crews are continuing work approximately 17km from the start of Northbank Road to clear a large slip. This week crews have cut the top bench above the slip and commenced excavation. A construction closure is in place until Friday 20 February on the following days and times:

  • Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 4.30pm
  • Saturday 24 January and Saturday 14 February from 8.30am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 4.30pm.

These closures are essential to safely clear the slip due to the risk of rock fall. They also allow for the work to be completed more efficiently. Due to the narrow roadway, no bypass is available. Please plan your travel around the scheduled closure times.

Outside of these times unattended traffic lights will remain in place with delays of up to five minutes.

No work will occur over Waitangi weekend. Crews will complete work at 12pm on Thursday 5 February and resume on Monday 9 February.

---------------------------------------------------

Work has commenced on the replacement of the Gillespie Bridge on Cat Creek Road. Crews continue to dismantle the old bridge, prior to installing piling for the new bridge.
