Annual Shop with Cops Event

St. Paul Police Department's annual Shop with Cops event took place on December 8th and 9th this year.  Gifts were pre-purchased, wrapped and packaged before families came, respecting COVID guidelines. Families from YWCA St. Paul housing shared a slice of pizza with the St. Paul Police Department, played some games, and took photos with Santa.

Shop with Cops builds positive bonds with kids in our communities by giving them a chance to give gifts to their families, courtesy of the donations made to the St. Paul Police Foundation. Thank you to St. Paul Police Department for hosting such a fun event and sharing the gift of giving, friendship and fun during the holiday season.

Dr. Nicole Milligan puts the finishing touches on Altitude

YWCA St. Paul shares Altitude through 2022

YWCA is honored to share a community sculpture, Altitude, that celebrates the City of St. Paul’s People’s Prosperity Pilot – a guaranteed income pilot program that launched in 2020.

The City of St. Paul and Mayor Melvin Carter partnered with Springboard for the Arts to commission this community sculpture. Artist Dr. Nicole Mary Milligan created Altitude, which is described as a celebration crafted out of glass, metal, and sound. Inspired by the dreams of children and a tight-rope walker's parasol,  Altitude will be hung from a second-floor window inside the YWCA St. Paul’s building for the community to enjoy while walking by. The sculpture will be viewable from the intersection at Selby Avenue and Western Avenue North. There will also be a QR code plaque on the first-floor window below the artwork which will invite viewers to listen to an original composition created for Altitude by Ireland’s Danny Diamond.

Tina Grant – YWCA Spotlight Profile

Looking for an opportunity to serve on a board where she could make a difference, especially in the neighborhood she grew up, Tina Grant gives of her time to YWCA St. Paul. While her day job as HR Leader of Ecolab’s Global Food and Beverage division keeps her plenty busy, Tina still finds time to give to an organization she is passionate about.

Having served on the Board since 2013, Tina continues to be impressed by the work the YW does. “The racial justice work we’re doing is impactful because it’s integrated across all our programming. That’s something that really resonates with me. Additionally, the supportive housing services we offer are truly foundational. If you don’t have a safe place to lay your head, you really can’t expect to succeed at work, school, parenting – anything.”
