Welcome to the Community Organisation Support Newsletter from Inclusion Barnet for Barnet Together (24th August)

Here's the latest updates, opportunities, and events from our vibrant Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector!

Hello everyone! Just a short one this week as I'm off on holiday (woohoo!) - I'm away until Thursday 31st August so I'll respond to any questions or suggestions when I return. Don't worry, the newsletter will be back in full swing next month!

Black History Month Event Funding

Black History Month takes place in October dedicated to celebrating communities and culture all around the world. This years theme is 'Celebrating our Sisters'

Barnet Council will be marking Black History Month with a range of events, including providing funding to community Groups to host events throughout October.

Community organisations can apply for £500 - £1,000 to host an event or activity to celebrate BHM 2023 in Barnet.

Deadline: Friday 25th August

Footwork's People and Place Fund

The People and Place Fund offers funding and support to get a local project off the ground, or scale it to increase its impact. Whether it’s an individual or a group – social enterprise or non-profit – Footwork thinks first-hand experience is very valuable and that local people are best placed to identify issues that need addressing and good ideas to tackle them. Footwork offers flexible grants of £5,000 to £10,000.

Deadline: Monday 11th September

Deadline Extended: Protective security schemes for places of worship

The application deadline for the Government’s scheme to fund protective security measures for places of worship at risk of hate crimes has been extended to 5th September 2023. The schemes provide funding for places of worship and associated faith community centres that are vulnerable to hate crime. These schemes aim to reduce hate crime happening at places of worship so that people can feel safe to attend worship and practise their religion freely.

Better Together Wellbeing Café

The Better Together Wellbeing Café is a friendly and welcoming space where people can enjoy a cuppa & chat, spend time with others and take part in peer engaging activities which include table tennis, arts and crafts and board games.
 
Taking place every Friday, Meridian's next volunteer led Wellbeing Café is taking place at the Meritage Centre (NW4 4JT) between 11am - 1pm on Friday 25th August.

Zero Suicide Alliance Lunch & Learn 

You're invited to the Zero Suicide Alliance Lunch and Learn session in partnership with Barnet Public Health to celebrate World Suicide Prevention Day.

The event is taking place between 11am - 1pm on Wednesday 13th September, virtually via zoom and features guest speakers including Barnet Wellbeing Service, Amparo Support After Suicide and Barnet Mencap.

Community Organisation Support Manager (Peer role)

Workplace: Remote

Salary: £40,000 per year pro rata (£32,000 actual salary)

Contract: Permanent, Part-time, 28 hours per week

Do you have a deep understanding of voluntary sector groups?  Are you passionate about inclusive communities and effective systems change?  

The successful candidate will lead on delivery of our voluntary sector support activity, working as part of our award-winning Barnet Together partnership with Young Barnet Foundation and Groundwork London.  Managing a team of four, you will  support delivery of our offer, increase membership and engagement, and act as Inclusion Barnet’s Operational Lead within the partnership.

Membership Development Officer x 2 (Peer role)

Workplace: NW9, London (Hybrid)

Salary: £30,000 per year pro rata (21 hour role £18k actual, 28 hour role £24k actual)

Contract: Fixed to March 2024 with possibility of extension depending on funding, Part-time

Are you passionate about the good work community groups do?  Would you like to support their development? 

These roles work with groups from all Barnet’s diverse communities, with one role specialising in grassroots and faith groups. All work is approached with an equalities and access lens.

We are looking for people with a commitment to the social model of disability, ideally with their own lived experience of disability (which could include mental health issues or a long term condition), and an ambition to contribute to a fairer society for all.  We particularly welcome applications from global majority candidates, who are currently underrepresented in our organisation. 

The successful candidates will spend their time supporting the local voluntary sector, working as part of our award-winning Barnet Together partnership with Young Barnet Foundation and Groundwork London.  You’ll work one to one with local organisations, ensuring that their development needs are met, and encouraging them to become members.

Trainee Benefits advisor (peer role)

Workplace: Remote

Salary: £26,000 per year pro rata (£15,600 actual)

Contract: Until 31st March 2025, extendable subject to funding, Part-time

The successful candidate will spend their time learning to be a specialist welfare benefits caseworker with fully funded training opportunities and the support of a senior caseworker.

To succeed, you will need some experience of working with adults, either paid and unpaid, together with excellent communication skills. You’ll be excited by the challenge of learning new things and have knowledge of the services used by disabled people.

This is a mainly home based role, with travel around Barnet needed around two days a month.  Some travel to other venues in London will also be required.

Barnet Together is calling for community, voluntary, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) groups as well as statutory organisations and businesses operating in the borough of Barnet, to sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Sector Manifesto.

The aim of the Manifesto is to create better understanding and deeper cross-sector collaboration between organisations working within Barnet. 

If you are a representative of a group, service provider or business based in or serving Barnet, then you can sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Manifesto.

Barnet Together is a free capacity building support service for the borough’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector. It supports local VCFSEs with funding, training, resources and advice, and offers a platform for stronger sector representation, voice and connection. Barnet Together services are available to all members of Young Barnet Foundation, Volunteering Barnet and Inclusion Barnet, with each partner organisation bringing their own specialisms, knowledge and assets.
