Here's the latest updates, opportunities, and events from our vibrant Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector!

Latest Funding News

 

Core Grant Fund

The McCarthy Stone foundation awards unrestricted core funding to grassroots charitable organisations, who have people over 65 at the heart of their work.

Funding is only available to registered charities and community groups. Grants of up to £7,500 are available. If you are unsure whether you should apply for core cost funding or would like further information, please get in touch here.

The John Ellerman Foundation

Supports organisations involved in arts, social action or the environment. They look for charities that have a national reach across the UK. They will support core costs or projects, depending on what is most needed, their grants can be used as matched funding.

The three main grant categories are open all year around and you can apply at anytime.

Go London Fund

Funds projects that support more children and young people to take part in sport and physical activity, and that improve the sustainability of the groups delivering these activities so they can become more resilient in the future. 

  • Grants of up to £40,000 for a maximum of two years (but the average grant is between £25,000 and £30,000) 
  • Available for community groups and organisations trusted by underserved children and young Londoners 
  • Funding can be for project-based costs, core organisational costs, or both 
  • Funding can support existing projects that are already taking place.

National Lottery Awards for All England

To support communities with the things that are important to them, including helping with the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

You can apply for funding to deliver a new or existing activity or to support your organisation to change and adapt to new and future challenges.

We can fund projects that’ll do at least one of these things:

  • bring people together to build strong relationships in and across communities
  • improve the places and spaces that matter to communities
  • help more people to reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest possible stage
  • support people, communities and organisations facing more demands and challenges because of the cost-of-living crisis.

funding from £300 to £10,000.

Deadline: Ongoing. Apply at least 16 weeks before you want to start the activities or spend any money.

On 15 November 2023 National Lottery Awards for All is changing. From that date, you will be able to:

  • apply for up to £20,000
  • get your project funded for up to two years

If you wish to apply for more than £10,000 apply after 15 November 2023

Free Google courses

For charities, particularly small organisations with limited resources, there are many free online, accredited digital skills training courses offered by Google. Topics including online marketing, engaging with customers and developing an engaging online presentation.

Barnet Libraries have a fantastic programme of Creative Communities events lined up for half term to keep children entertained.

Barnet Mind Courses and Workshops

Barnet Mind are providing a wide range of free online workshops and face to face courses. The courses are funded by Barnet & Southgate College and Barnet Wellbeing Service.

Inter Faith Week 2023 12-19 November 2023

The Aims of the Week Are to:

  • Strengthen good inter faith relations
  • Increase awareness of the different and distinct faith communities in the UK, in particular celebrating and building on the contribution which their members make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society
  • Increase understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs.

Each year, Inter Faith Week begins on Remembrance Sunday, and runs until the following Sunday. Remembrance Sunday was chosen as a start day to encourage people to remember  the contributions of all faiths and none, and to consider how best to create a just, peaceful, and harmonious world.

As part of Interfaith week Middlesex University are hosting an Eco Sustainability Fair The event is organised by Our Home Our Planet CIC together with Barnet Multi-Faith Forum, Middlesex University Inter Faith Network , North London Waste Authority, and is also part of the national week-long Inter Faith Week.

There with be sustainable gifts, stalls and opportunities to engage with local community groups. 

The event is open to ALL members of the community from all faiths and none. It is free to attend.

Free community health screenings for over 40s

Check your blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and height, weight and body mass index (BMI) for free at a Community Health Screening. Healthcare professionals will also provide tailored advice to help you stay well and healthy.

The Community Health Screening service is a free service for anyone over the age of 40 who lives, works or studies in Barnet.

Walk-in appointments are available, but capacity is limited. There may be a wait during busy periods.

FREE Upshot Demo Sessions 

Upshot helps organisations, who make a difference, become more insight-led. Using a MEL (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning) approach, they provide an easy-to-use online system for funders and delivers of all sizes to monitor, evaluate and learn from their data.

Barnet Together, with funding from the council, are excited to be able to offer eligible members the opportunity to use the Upshot platform for FREE for one year and at a reduced cost of £200 + VAT for the second year (following that, members will be offered a further one year at a discounted rate, before transferring to a full price Upshot membership in year 4).

Movember

As the first of November looms it's time to raise awareness of Men’s Health. The Movember movement aims to do that through campaigns, fundraising and of course the traditional sponsored moustache.

Barnet Together is calling for community, voluntary, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) groups as well as statutory organisations and businesses operating in the borough of Barnet, to sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Sector Manifesto.

The aim of the Manifesto is to create better understanding and deeper cross-sector collaboration between organisations working within Barnet. 

If you are a representative of a group, service provider or business based in or serving Barnet, then you can sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Manifesto.

Barnet Together is a partnership established in 2018 between Young Barnet Foundation, Volunteering Barnet and Inclusion Barnet. Barnet Together is a free capacity building support service for the borough’s Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector. It supports local VCFSEs with funding, training, resources and advice, and offers a platform for stronger sector representation, voice and connection. Barnet Together services are available to all members of Young Barnet Foundation, Volunteering Barnet and Inclusion Barnet, with each partner organisation bringing their own specialisms, knowledge and assets.
