Merry Christmas from the O Mahurangi Alliance

We hope this message finds you and your whānau well as we head towards the end of the year.

We’d like to say a big thank you to all our neighbours and everyone who has engaged with us on the O Mahurangi project.

Our team breaks for the Christmas and New Year holiday period from Friday 20 December 2024. During the holiday period, team members will be carrying out intermittent inspections. We would like to remind everyone that the project area is a construction zone with many hazards and there is no public access at any time.

Although team members may not always be on site, you can contact us with urgent enquiries on 0800 7365 465.

We will be returning Monday 6 January 2025, with the team heading straight into a busy start to the year. Below are details for some changes occuring in the new year.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and thank you for your ongoing support and patience.

December 2024 drone flyover

We’ve made significant progress this year – some of the highlights include:

  • 780,000 cubic metres of earth moved.
  • 295 metres of network drainage pipes installed.
  • 1216 metres of pipe culverts installed.
  • More than 3,000 cubic metres of concrete poured for the Wēiti River Bridge piers and abutment.
  • Duck Creek Road Bridge beams placed, deck poured and barriers installed.

To see this progress, watch our December 2024 aerial flyover of the entire project. You can watch the flyover in high definition by increasing the video quality to 1080p or higher under the "settings" button in the bottom right corner. You can also adjust the speed to view at your preferred pace.

Upcoming changes to Cedar Terrace

As we progress with the works for the future realigned Whangaparāoa Road and new Cedar Terrace intersection, the team will be installing new temporary traffic management.

This will include a long term temporary closure at the Cedar Terrace intersection. All Cedar Terrace traffic will detour via Scott and Norfolk Roads. We expect this work to start February 2025 and be in place for at least 12 months.

Our team regularly updates nearby neighbours. If you live in the vicinity and wish to receive the Whangaparāoa updates, sign up here for work notifications.

Duck Creek Road work continues

At the start of 2025, the team will continue work on the Duck Creek Road interchange as we work on the bridge and new State Highway 19 and Duck Creek Road connections.

As part of this work, there will be two phases of temporary traffic management, including a 24/7 single lane. Further details are included with the map below.

Our team regularly updates nearby residents. If you live in the Stillwater area and would like to receive our Stillwater updates, sign up here for work notifications.

January 2025 temporary Wēiti River channel closure

As our team progresses with the construction of Pier 4, the navigable channel will temporarily close for 4 weeks, from Monday 6 January through to Sunday 2 February 2025.

The channel closure does not affect vessels navigating the river downstream of the worksite. When the work is complete, we will reopen to the 18-metre-wide navigable gap for vessels to pass through.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank all river users and neighbours for their patience during the ongoing construction of the new Wēiti River Bridge. Should you have any questions regarding this closure, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Please note: The map below is indicative only and is not to be used for navigational purposes.

Doing good, together

The O Mahurangi Alliance has been getting in the spirit of Christmas this month.

We supported Christmas in the Park at Stillwater with a Christmas tree, lollies for their lolly scramble, and decorations. After the event, the Christmas tree was given to a Stillwater family and the decorations stored for next year.

We also held a team raffle recently, with the proceeds going to the Whangapāraoa Scout Group. We raffled planter boxes and a seat made with recycled fencing timber removed from across the project.

Merry Christmas from the O Mahurangi Communications and Engagement team.
