Te Ara Tūtohu: Waitara to Bell Block

13 July 2023

Kia ora,

Changes to the traffic management at the Princess Street roundabout and pedestrian underpass construction site will take effect on 17 July to allow stormwater works to continue.

From 17 July the following changes will take effect:

  • A 50 metre section of the northbound lane on Rahiri Street will close, beginning at the intersection with Princess Street. A temporary traffic light will be installed to control the flow of traffic. Residents will continue to have access to their properties.
  • The northbound lane on Princess Street East will open and the southbound lane will close. The existing temporary traffic light on Princess Street East will be moved approximately 50 metres south of the Rahiri Street intersection.

The stormwater work is expected to be complete by the end of August.

The traffic management on State Highway 3 and Princess Street West will remain unchanged. The Stop/Go traffic management will continue to operate 24/7 and the 30km/h temporary speed limit will remain in place. People should allow for delays of up to 15 minutes.

Crews will continue to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 5.30pm. Night works may be carried out from time to time if required. If this is the case, we will notify residents and road users ahead of any night works taking place.

Waka Kotahi thanks local communities for their understanding while these important works are completed.
