Thank you City of Swan new works at the SEC
City of Swan Dust Suppression project.
In late 2020 the City of Swan provided a grant for the application of ArenaKleen a dust suppression product for all of our non-grass surfaces. Due to Covid related delays the project was completed 15 October 2021.
Many benefits will result from the City of Swan support of this project, the Indoor arena, Indoor warmup, undercover area, C-Quest and C-Quest warmup, International arena and round yards will no longer require watering saving both water, power to run the retic, retic repairs and labour to set up watering.
The ArenaKleen treatment will also result in a dust free surface at all times with important benefits of no dust in the air to effect horse or rider performance and a much better environment for spectators. We also envisage greatly reduced dust settling in the Indoor arena seating areas this should make event preparation more efficient.
ArenaKleen is used widely on equine arenas worldwide, the product was trialled on the C-Quest to ensure the required performance. The material is inert and bonds to the arena surface particles, when the surface is treated it rides like it has been watered, denser as if it has been watered.
The initial treatment will last about 12 months and we have sufficient product for a top-up when required, this would result in an additional 2 years performance.
General purpose field upgrade supported by City of Swan and the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries
The 2.1 hectare General purpose field will be upgraded with works starting 8 November. For the first time a major renovation of the grass surface will take place, in preparation the old reticulation pump and controllers have been replaced with a new generation variable speed/auto pressure systems pump. This is both more efficient and will better suit our requirements resulting in reliable watering of the GP field. The pump upgrade is part of a DLGSC grant to support the SEC.
Lovegrove Turf Services has been contracted to upgrade the grass surface as part of a City of Swan operational support grant for the SEC.
The surface will be renovated with their Field Topmaker removing the top 40mm of grass, then the surface will be Earthquake Decompacted, following this the surface will be top-dressed, levelled and additional Kikuyu applied as needed. The surface should be ready for use in March 2022. Lovegrove’s are also contracted to maintain the grass during the recovery period and for all of 2022.

This upgrade will result in the surface returning to a primarily Kikuyu with some Couch surface with the treatment and removal of other weeds. The root system of the Kikuyu and Couch remains after the Topmaker removes the 40mm surface this results in a quicker recovery of the grass. Where identified additional Kikuyu will be added to the field.
The Earthquake Decompactor will de-compact the soil resulting in better drainage and soil health.
EWA would like to acknowledge thesupport of the City of Swan and Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries for these projects.
