SH10 Kāeo Bridge upgrade |
15 May 2023 |
An example of the jinker in action as a beam is reversed into the Matakohe Bridges site in 2018 Beam delivery for Kāeo BridgeFrom Tuesday 16 May, the 50 tonne beams for Kāeo Bridge will begin arriving on site which is very exciting for the bridge progress but may cause some delays to your journey. At 30 metres in length, one beam a day will be transported to Kāeo from Auckland on a large transporter. The transporter will reverse them into the site on the north side of the bridge once a day sometime between 9am-12pm and this may impact wait times over the next four weeks. Navigating the beam across the old Kāeo Bridge is an intricate task and we will have to stop traffic in all directions while the transporter makes its way around the tight corner and across the bridge. An allowance of 10-15 minutes should be made for this wait time. From the end of this week there will be extra truck movements as the big crane (450t) is brought to site to lift the beams onto the piers. The crane comes in on several large trucks to be assembled on site. Please be aware of potential delays and additional large trucks coming and going if travelling through Kāeo Bridge over the coming weeks. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we carry out this work. |
