It’s a brand New Year folks and we’re already past the first month! It’s been a busy time for everyone and I hope the New Year is going to bring happiness and abundance for all our members. Our January event was very successful and at the fabulous The View Eatery at Silvermist, one of our Skål members’ venues. Wonderful to connect with Skalleagues after the festivities and New Year celebrations. Philip & Sandra Engelen from The View Eatery at Silvermist The Committee had our Bosberaad on the 20th January at Ikwatthu – 6 hours of brain storming and debate!!! We have huge plans for this year – i’m sure you have all seen the “Save the dates “that have already been circulated and posted. Part of the vision for 2022 was to make Skål and our club more visible on a local, national and international level. The vision for 2023 is to expand on that and ensure we are relevant and progressive. The next event is the 7th February which combines our AGA with a networking breakfast at the Century City Convention Centre. I urge all our members to attend – become involved in your club. And on that note – please check your details on the Cape Town website are updated. In other news…… I was fortunate enough to attend the first Cape West Coast club event for 2023. The Cape Town club gifted the newest club in South Africa with their Vice President’s regalia. Congratulations to Shirley and her team on a wonderful occasion and a spectacular venue. Just a few of the reasons why we are all Skål Members and a few points members might not realise:
This is most definitely not the way I ever want to end a newsletter or start a new year. Our sincerest condolences to Guy Hawthorne’s family and friends. It is with immense sadness and disbelief that we say goodbye to another wonderful Skalleague. He was a free spirited, colourful, friendly soul – always smiling and ready for a hug. We were fortunate enough to have Guy attend the January event – he will be dearly missed. “Travel is emotional, it’s subjective, it’s sometimes confrontational, it’s educational, it’s inspiring, it’s rewarding, it’s unlike any other experiences of life (in our opinion) and we believe that whether you’re backpacking, or traveling in a limousine, staying in hostels or in the ultimate luxury money can buy, the experience of travel can only enhance your living experience.” - Guy Hawthorne As always folks, my song that will never end even more so in light of the heartrending news – love, make contact, check in on each other but most importantly HUG!!!! My wish for each and every Skål member worldwide HAPPINESS daily GOOD HEALTH by the second FRIENDSHIPS that last beyond memories LONG LIFE that inspires our successors Skål Dawn Smith |
