As always, we're excited to bring you this newsletter, with lots of funding opportunities for next year, as well as training, events and opportunities going on in the local area, including the Barnet Together 2023 Fundraising Programme, which you can sign up to now! Latest Funding NewsBarnet Together 2023 Fundraising Programme We're excited to announce our 2023 Fundraising Programme, kicking off the new year bringing you expert advice on how to make the most of fundraising opportunities. Sessions include: Writing for Impact - Raising your profile - Corporate and Business Sponsorship, Budgeting for Funding Applications and much more! These will be fortnightly sessions running from January 25 to May 10. Winter Festival Funding Barnet Council now accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for community groups to host Winter Festival events between now and the end of February. Funding up to £1,000 available. These can be faith, cultural or community based. Groups must send the completed application to community@barnet.gov.uk at least four weeks before their event. If you have an event planned that you would like included in Barnet Council’s listings, please email it to: community@barnet.org.uk with the subject heading ‘Barnet Winter Festival Event Listing’ Winter Pressures Funds Compass Wellebing are offering two funds for the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise sector in Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and more London boroughs. Their Inequalities Fund and Hospital Admission Avoidance Fund both offer between £5,000 and £50,000 for 12 months. The Inequalities Fund aims to help organisations tackle under-served communities while the Hospital Admission Avoidance Fund is to support charities whose capacity is stretched. Deadline: Sunday 8 January City Bridge Trust Stepping Stones Fund This is a social investment fund for charitable organisations in Greater London. It aims to fund capacity building projects and plans to build better outcomes for the people you support. No minimum amount of funding, with maximum grant amount expected to be £50,000. Rolling applications. GLA Voter ID Community Grants open for applications This grants programme is open to all London-based equity-led organisations who can reach those most likely to need photo ID to vote. More details about the grant application process, including the prospectus and guidance can be found here. Organisations can apply for grants between £10,000 - £15,000. Gisela Graham Foundation Funding The Gisela Graham Foundation is a small charity that aims to provide financial support to those in need through providing assistance in specific cases of poverty and poor education. Charities or corporate bodies can put in applications on behalf of someone they support, with grants usually under £10,000. Rolling applications for 2023. Charities Aid Foundation Keystone Fund The Keystone Fund will allow locally and regionally-focused charities working towards social equity to become more agile in their support for their communities. Grants between £5,000 and £50,000 will be awarded over 2-3 rounds during 2022-23 to charities adapting their ways of working and bolstering their core building blocks. Stage 1 applications close Wednesday 23 November. Stage 2 applications open 7 December - 9 January. Active Spaces Fund The London Marathon Charitable Trust has announced the new Active Spaces Fund, which is making £5 million available over the next three years to improve spaces and inspire activity in London. Grants of up to £20,000 are being offered to organisations in London that are helping children and young people and marginalised groups to lead active and healthy lives. Deadline: Friday 16 December Training & EventsGrahame Park Christmas Gifts and Toys Swap Shop Bring your unwanted gifts/toys (in good condition!) and swap for new and second-hand toys and gifts. Barnet Christmas Fayre The Barnet Christmas Fayre is taking place this Sunday, 4th December from 12pm - 5pm. Come along to feel the festive cheer, with stalls, craft fayres, Satna's Grotto and much more! Where: The Bull Theatre, 68 High St, Chipping Barnet, Barnet EN5 5SJ Understanding Dementia training Dementia Club UK are working with Barnet to provide a FREE, 1-hour, CPD certified course on Understanding Dementia. You and your organisation will become Dementia Champions, helping to make Barnet a Dementia Friendly Borough. Barnet Carers Evening Reception Barnet Carers are hosting an evening reception, where you can join many local organisations, politicians and carers to celebrate the great work that's happening. Refreshments provided. The training is for those working and volunteering in Barnet. Participants will develop a deeper understanding around the stages of grief and learn how to support others who are grieving. Sessions take place on Zoom between 9:30-11:30am on 25th January, 8th February, 22nd February and 22nd March 2023. While the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is yet to be fully understood, work-related stress is the number one reason given for sick days in the UK. The Health and Safety Executive is Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety. Their campaign "Working Minds" campaign aims to help businesses recognise the signs of work-related stress and make tackling issues routine. News & OpportunitiesJoin the Warm Spaces initiative Warm Spaces is a community-led initiative where local businesses and community groups provide a welcoming space for residents to stay warm and engage with others in their community. If you run a business or community, faith or social enterprise organisation, you can join the scheme by offering your space. Barnet's goal to becoming a dementia-friendly borough Barnet has been recognised as a community that is committed to becoming ‘dementia-friendly’ by the Alzheimer’s Society, which will help over 5,000 residents living with dementia in the borough. A ‘Dementia Friendly Community’ is a place that creates an environment where people living with dementia will be confident that they can contribute to community life. Barnet had the sixth highest recorded prevalence of dementia of all the London boroughs and with an ageing population the council expects over 7,000 people to be living with it by 2040. Join Golders Green Town Team - help shape the town centre Barnet Council is supporting the establishment of a new Town Team for Golders Green. This independent group of residents, business owners and community representatives will work with the council to co-develop a programme of community events for Golders Green, bringing activity and footfall to the high street. Next year, our borough will be home to the London Festival of Architecture, and the organisers are inviting organisations, individuals and businesses from the area to an online briefing session. You will get to hear what's been planned, as well as opportunities for getting involved. The London Festival of Architecture is a month-long celebration of architecture, exploring the theme of 'In Common' this June. When: Wednesday 7 December 2022, 4:30-5:30pm Barnet Trees for Streets Barnet is the latest London borough to join Trees for Streets, the national tree sponsorship scheme from the charity Trees for Cities. The scheme enables residents and businesses to get involved in getting more trees planted in their local area. Thanks to match funding from the Mayor of London, for every tree sponsored by a resident or business between now and December 2023, another tree will be planted. Support local businesses this Christmas When shopping for Christmas presents this year, why not stay local and support some of Barnet's environmentally-focused initiatives? Helpful Kids creates gifts and toys for children from handmade and sustainable materials. The Flower Bank is a zero-waste enterprise that sells re-purposed flowers. The Incredible Edible book is all about how residents can grow food to support the local area, and features Incredible Edible Barnet's Wendy Alcock! Covid 19 autumn vaccines for frontline workers Frontline staff can now arrange their Covid 19 Autumn vaccines by visiting the NHS website. Young Barnet Foundation are looking for a part-time Finance Manager to helps smooth the running of the organisation. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a willingness to organise and manage a wide-ranging workload.
