NEWS UPDATE06 December 2024 Publishers noteSummer has arrived, and Marine Rescue NSW is tackling it head-on. They’ve announced that during December and January, the Middle Harbour and Marine Rescue Port Jackson crews will provide seven-day-a-week coverage during daylight hours, with volunteer crews also on call overnight. They say the plan is to have volunteers and vessels from either Marine Rescue Middle Harbour at The Spit or Marine Rescue Port Jackson at Birkenhead Point on the water for 62 consecutive days, ensuring boaters receive assistance when needed. You have to admire their commitment. They’re a godsend for the thousands of boaters who will turn our waterways into their summer playground. I highlight the efforts of Marine Rescue NSW, as their sharp and highly efficient communications team, keep the information and updates coming think and fast. But my admiration extends to all rescue services across the nation, as I know they all approach their work with the same passion, dedication, and success. Like it or not, volunteers are a vital part of our boating lifestyle. While the responsibility always lies with the skipper to do the right thing, knowing these crews are there, provides invaluable peace of mind—even though you hope you’ll never need them. I do hope you enjoy this week’s news. Marine Business News is an Australian-owned marine industry news service publishing local and international news.
