Click here EIGHT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT DELTA-8(January 2024) Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-8), also known as “marijuana-lite” or “legal weed,” is a cannabinoid that is extracted from the cannabis plant. But what exactly is Delta-8, and what does it mean for your drug-free workplace program? Here are eight pieces of information to know about Delta-8: 1. Close-cousin to THC: Delta-8 is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in marijuana and hemp (two plants in the cannabis family). Its chemical structure is very similar to Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (commonly called THC), the high-inducing substance in marijuana. 2. It can produce a high: Because its structure is similar to THC, Delta-8 can cause a high. However, Delta-8 is said to be only about half as potent as THC, so the high caused by Delta-8 is a milder one. Delayed Drug Test Results? You’ve just extended a job offer to an exceptional candidate for a position you’ve been longing to fulfill within the company, you’re understaffed, this candidate is ready to start working, and here you are 6 days later waiting for that pre-employment drug test result. Sometimes there may be an extended lag time from the moment we send someone for a drug test to the time we receive that result. This can trigger a sense of urgency, and once you add in the “unknown” factor of WHEN will I get this test result and WHY is it taking so long”, it can get a bit frustrating. Issue 2 Update As it currently stands, no further movement has taken place, which has prompted Governor Dewine, in an interview with Ohio newspaper editors to ask the Legislature to get back together, start talking about this and to take action. Remember, at this time, the current law as passed by the voters still supports employers in your decision to implement and maintain your current drug-free workplace policies and practices around the use, possession, and distribution of marijuana.
