I hope you all have some nice things planned and wish you all a restful break. I would like to thank the whole staff team for their endless energy and support over the last year, encouraging our pupils to 'grow and shine'. Thank you also to everyone that attended Sports Day recently. It was most enjoyable to see the parents and carers supporting pupils from the side lines, taking great pleasure from seeing pupils enjoying such a fun-packed event. A few photos from Sports Day and Achievement Day on the last day of term can be found below. Just a polite reminder that Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th September are INSET days, so we look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Wednesday 6th September. Ensuring the school is financially healthy and that all financial targets are met 3. Demonstrating best value for money I hope that everyone has a good, well-deserved summer recess and I look forward to welcoming you all back to school refreshed in September. Developing a love for readingThe topic at our recent Afternoon Tea event was 'developing a love for reading'. We thought we would share with you all some of the information that English Lead Louise Denford talked about on the day, for those that weren't able to attend. Some ideas to support reading for all: The
Pete Wells Sensory Stories Podcast – Special stories for everyone! - a good place to find ideas to help engage older readers Sensory Stories – Twinkl have some engaging ideas Oxford Owl also have some great tips around reading in the holidays, not just recommended titles by age group, but also some fabulous Outdoor Learning ideas too. Please also see the poster below for the Summer Reading Challenge 2023 which libraries across the country are taking part in, or alternatively, you can take part online. Children set themselves a reading goal, and each time they finish a book, they add it to their profile and leave a review. Dramatic seagull rescue! An epic rescue mission ensued recently at FHHS, when a seagull become trapped under the solar panels on the school roof. The RSPCA were called and they in turn called the fire brigade! The gull was freed (despite the fire officers on the roof being dive bombed by the gull’s friends who were intent on protecting it!) The fire brigade used the event as a training exercise to practice their climbing and rope safety skills. Thankfully, everyone involved (including the seagull) are safe and well. We'd like to say a big 'thank you' to the RSPCA and to the Saltash Fire and Rescue Service.
