Sporting Hearts

Special visitors to the hospital were very limited at the start of this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but as things began to ease, we were so happy to welcome these sporting stars into our wards, bringing lots of joy to our patients (and staff!).

Charlee's Story 

First-time parents Ali and Josh (pictured) welcomed their baby girl at just 23 weeks gestation. Weighing a tiny 560 grams, Charlee was so small that her parent's wedding rings fit around her arm like bangles.

Mental Health Support

It can be challenging for multicultural communities to speak about and access mental health support for their kids.
We have developed videos in 4 languages - Dari, Urdu, Amharic and Vietnamese - to help explain who CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) is and how parents and community members can access the support their child or adolescent may need.

Markets Raise $10k

The annual Arthurton Pop Up Markets were recently held with an amazing $10,000 raised for The Friends of the Women's and Children's Hospital by their Maitland/ Arthurton Auxiliary Division. More than 2000 people attended the day with money rasied through tickets, raffles and stalls.

With up to 85% of your baby’s brain developing in their first 3 years Our Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS) has partnered with Words Grow Minds to encourage parents and babies to talk, read, play and sing together from birth.

Living With Type 1 Diabetes - James's Story

6 year old James was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2021. His mum tells how a social media post on our Facebook page helped her to realise her son might be one of the 10,000 children in Australia living with this condition.

Nursing Families Together

18 year old Declan (pictured) goes to his favourite restaurant every Sunday, thanks to the amazing team at Encompass.
This service helps children with complex health needs to attend school, childcare and other community services by providing specialist training for support workers.

Nina's farewell after 246 days

After 246 days at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, 14 month old Nina finally got to go home to be with her Mum, Brooke, Dad, Aaron and big sister Eve.
