Every lung cancer diagnosis is unique, and this year’s International Lung Cancer Survivorship Conference is offering sessions on some of the greatest challenges faced by people living with the disease as well as information about advancements in research. Experts from around the world will present on topics such as brain metastasis in lung cancer and cachexia, a wasting syndrome involving weight loss, physical weakness, and lack of energy, along with interactive sessions on specific types of lung cancer and clinical trials. This conference is less than two weeks away and includes Lung Cancer 101 sessions that are available ahead of time for those interested. You can see the full agenda for the two-day conference here. Bringing Team Joy to Breathe Deep TOGETHER
Connecting with people who understood her, and her emotions, helped Kat see the importance of being open and vulnerable. That’s why she shared her story in a recent blog, and it’s why she created Team Joy for the upcoming Breathe Deep TOGETHER walk on Saturday, November 4. Breathe Deep TOGETHER is LUNGevity’s annual community event for raising awareness, celebrating progress, and honoring those we love. With options to take part in person or virtually, it’s easy to create your own team and join Kat and the rest of the vibrant lung cancer community on November 4. Make sure to register by the end of the month to get your free Breathe Deep TOGETHER t-shirt! Team Mini Mighty Marvelous Marlys
— Tim Couser, who ran 26.2 miles for Marlys. You can learn more about Marlys and this amazing fundraising feat in this recent blog. LUNGevity’s Bring Your Own Bib (B.Y.O.B.) program makes it easy for you to set up a personal fundraiser for your upcoming race or athletic event. And after raising $100, we'll send you a free race-day shirt to show others that you’re competing for lung cancer. Fall Art Workshop Series
We are excited to continue our partnership with Sites and Insights, one of our most popular partners at this year’s HOPE Summit, to offer a three-part virtual art workshop this October. These three 2-hour sessions will focus on learning how to express feelings and emotions using color, art, and mindful techniques.
— Maureen on why she enjoyed the art workshop at HOPE Summit. Everyone is an artist—and everyone is invited to join—but there are limited spaces available! All the materials needed will be mailed to artists prior to the first session on October 16. LUNGevity Partnerships in the CommunityIt was an honor to partner with the National Minority Quality Forum as an exhibitor at their Flint, MI, Screening and Health Fair last month, where our staff was able to share information, talk with community members, and answer questions. In September, a LUNGevity Lunch & Learn is taking place in Philadelphia to share why it’s important eligible people undergo a lung cancer screening. We're thankful to have Jefferson Health Care join us so they can answer questions about getting people into their screening program. We are excited to continue to build our partnerships with local health centers that allow us to engage specific communities and answer questions, ease concerns, and highlight the importance of lung cancer screening to people who are eligible. |
