The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), with the support of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), Austrade, and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR), invites you to an online information session on Indonesia’s updated requirements for halal and non-halal products on Wednesday 30 October, 12:30PM - 1:30PM.
On Friday 18 October 2024, the Indonesian government anounced it would delay the implementation of mandatory halal certification for imported food and beverages. This means Australian exporters no longer need to comply with Indonesia’s halal certification requirements until a new deadline for implementation has been determined by Indonesia. This delay was set out in an update to Indonesia’s halal regulations which also contains other changes relevant for Australian exporters.
This information session is aimed primarily at exporters that will be impacted by Indonesia’s updated halal requirements for food and beverage products. Exporters of other products (e.g. cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medicinal products, clothing, appliances) are also welcome to join this session. These products will face similar import requirements in coming years.
The webinar will provide:
• Information on Indonesia’s delay to halal requirements for imported products;
• Information about the other updates to requirements for exporting businesses contained in this new regulation;
• An opportunity for questions and answers. To register for this session, please follow this link to register through Webex. AEGIC’s annual delegation to Japan sparked positive discussions between the WA noodle wheat sector and the Japanese udon industry, with both partners committing to continued technical exchange and collaboration. The visit was supported by leading Australian noodle wheat breeding companies InterGrain and Australian Grain Technologies (AGT), which recently released new varieties: Splendid (InterGrain) and Rottnest (AGT). The delegation was part of AEGIC’s ongoing technical exchange with and support for Japan’s udon industry, in collaboration with Grains Australia, breeding companies and the broader industry. Discussions were positive, focusing on maintaining the quality and supply of Australian udon noodle wheat. AEGIC and JFMA are committed to continue working together to conduct udon sensory evaluation to build more evidence on the ideal colour requirements for udon. This information will assist Grains Australia’s Wheat Council and Wheat Variety Classification Panel when making decisions regarding classification of wheat varieties. AEGIC and JFMA have each committed investment and resources into the technical exchange program – also known as the JFMA visiting noodle expert program – managed by AEGIC on behalf of the Australian industry. The program provides a great platform for capacity building on both sides and supports the development of new ANW and APWN lines and the classification process managed by Grains Australia. The next JFMA visiting noodle expert is expected in 2025. AEGIC will conduct further visits and technical seminars in Japan in 2025. Source and photo: AEGIC
