Fuel Market Update - 13 April 2026

Dear Valued Customers,

The situation in the Middle East continues to evolve, with ongoing volatility impacting global fuel markets and causing pricing to fluctuate over recent weeks.

On 1 April, the Australian Government reduced the fuel excise from 52.6 cents per litre to 20.6 cents per litre to help ease cost pressures. This has led to a noticeable improvement in petrol pricing. However, diesel prices remain elevated and continue to be a concern across many industries.

To help explain the current conditions, petrol and diesel prices are set using different international benchmarks. Diesel is linked to the Singapore gasoil benchmark, which has remained significantly higher than petrol benchmarks. This is largely due to Singapore refineries relying heavily on Middle Eastern crude, along with increased transport costs when sourcing oil from other regions.

At the same time, diesel continues to play a critical role across key industries such as transport, mining and agriculture, as well as a significant portion of passenger vehicles, maintaining strong underlying demand.

From a supply perspective, the outlook remains stable through to the end of April, with no immediate concerns.

In Tasmania, the next scheduled shipment is due into Devonport on 16 April, in line with the regular 21-day delivery cycle. Victoria also remains in a strong position, with supply largely sourced from the Viva refinery.

We have also observed a reduction in demand across late March & early April, driven by:

  • Normal seasonal patterns
  • Changes in purchasing behaviour due to higher prices
  • Some customers bringing forward orders into early March

While pricing is expected to remain variable in the short term, Bonney Energy continues to have access to reliable supply through our partnership with Ampol. Our team remains focused on ensuring deliveries are made safely and efficiently, and we are committed to supporting our customers through these changing conditions.

We appreciate your ongoing understanding and support.
