Friday Edition
Hey, hey, members! Happy Friday to you all! Wow, what a week it’s been! If you feel like your brain needs a break, don’t worry, you’re not alone. We can all use some downtime after a week like this one! I (Vella) have been going back and forth to the hospital a lot this week, and I am just about ready to collapse into a pile of mush. My beloved sister had three operations done, but thankfully, she’s doing much better now and is on the road to recovery! So, today I am just feeling relieved and happy to be here with you all. Let’s all do our best to never take a single day for granted, eh?
Now, on a lighter note, we have some fun things planned for today’s newsletter! So let’s get straight into it, shall we? First up, we have the third and final riddle for the week…
How high would you have to count before you would use the letter A in the English language spelling of a whole number?
Well, how’s that for an intriguing brain teaser? Anyone who thinks they’re up for the challenge, head over to the riddle masters thread here. If you guess the correct answer, we shall give you a shout-out in tomorrow’s newsletter. Good luck, everyone!
Okay, ready for today’s stories? Let’s go!

Before I go anywhere, I just want to take a moment to encourage you all to compare your health insurance*. After the week I’ve had, it’s something I’m incredibly grateful for and lucky enough to have. So just a friendly reminder for you to compare your health insurance before April 1*. Why? Because health insurance premiums are increasing by a staggering 2.90%. But don’t worry I have good news: You don’t need to be paying hundreds more for the health cover you have. Over the past 4 years our partners at Compare Club have saved their customers who are over the age of 50 an average of $259.50 on their health insurance*.
For those feeling a bit competitive, don't forget to check out our many games, including our Alphabetical Bands/Groups Game, Alphabetical Australian Places
Game, Change A Letter Game, and 3x3 Word Thread. Of course, we still have our beloved classic games, including Word Pairs, Abbreviation Game, Word Association Game, Rearrange, Add or Subtract Word Game! Keep a Word, Drop a Word Game, and Can you name 5? As well as our Sudoku puzzles, OzGrid, classic OzWord, and our Ozword (expert edition). And our card games, including Solitaire and Blackjack.
And one last thing, don't forget to enter our referral competition! All you have to do is refer your friends to the SDC (with their permission, of course) for one entry into the competition. The more entries you get into the competition, the more chances you have to win a $100 voucher to Coles, Woolworths, ALDI or IGA! To refer a friend to us, all you have to do is
email us their name and email address here! You can also email us at contact@seniorsdiscountclub.com.au. Note: If you email us their name and email address without their permission, your entry to the competition will be removed.

Do you remember the days when the workplace had a special charm that we don’t see much of these days? One of the things that made those offices special was the tea lady. Back in the day, almost every office had one. They were the unsung heroes of the workplace, bringing much-needed refreshments, a friendly face, and a bit of banter to brighten up the day. You could always hear them coming with the sound of the wonky wheels of their trolley, rattling tea cups and saucers, and the chime of spoons. They were the keepers of office gossip and seemed to know everything happening in the office. Who remembers the tea lady and the joy they brought to the workplace?

Got Health insurance? Your Premiums Are Going Up Yet Again*
A health insurance rate rise of 2.90% is what Aussies are being slapped with during a cost-of-living crisis. We’ve seen mortgage rates increase, grocery prices spike, petrol prices peak, and now our health insurance premiums will be increasing by an average of 2.90%.
From 1 April 2023, Australians over the age of 65 could be paying up to $167* more per year for their health insurance and that’s just for those of you who are not with one of the ‘Big Five’ health insurers - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - if you are with one of the ‘Big Five’ you could be paying up to $194* per year for the exact same cover you currently have.

How beautiful is the photo shared by member @Algieboy in our photography forum? The way the sun dances off the water and illuminates the bridge and its surrounding foliage is simply magical. A little old lady was walking down the street, dragging two large plastic rubbish bags behind her.
One of the bags was ripped, and every once in a while, a $20 note fell out onto the sidewalk.
Noticing this, a policeman stopped her and said, ‘Ma’am, there are $20 notes falling out of that bag.’
Oh my goodness, this one caught me off guard, but it’s hilarious! This has to be one of the funniest jokes I’ve read recently. Kudos to @Luckyus for sharing this with us! Check out the rest of the joke here.

The World Wide Web (WWW) was invented in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist working at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) at the time. Four years after publishing a proposal for ‘an idea of linked information systems’, he released the source code for the world’s first web browser and editor.
