Message from President Peggy Shannon, PhD The energy is buzzing in all the offices around campus – a new school year is upon us! There are many events taking place on campus this year. The Office of Student Experience and the Student Union of NSCAD (SUNSCAD) have organized two full Welcome Weeks of celebrations, starting with Undergraduate Orientation. There will be yoga, meditation, healthy eating workshops, film screenings, information fairs, and club nights. There will also be an evening of entertainment at the newly refurbished FAB (Former Art Bar) on Thursday, August 24th from 6:00 – 10:00 pm. If you are in town, please stop by and say hello! I am also excited to welcome wonderful new people to our campus. We have six new faculty members as part of our second cohort hire. We have Jude Gerrard, our new Ombudsperson, who has begun and will be offering leadership on decolonization, equity, and justice efforts at NSCAD. Finally, we have Jess Johnson, our Accessibility Learning Strategist, who will be leading the implementation of
NSCAD’s updated accessibility policy. Also planned for the fall are alumni meet ups in Nova Scotia, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and New York. I look forward to seeing you at one of these events and catching up with all your news. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer!
Peggy
Message from Sunil Sarwal (BDes 2002) Alumni Association President
Each September the Alumni Association holds a meeting open to all alumni. Everyone is welcome to drop in and talk about what they’d like to see the Association do, make suggestions, or complaints, or ask about what’s going on. Every year a few new folks show up and volunteer to be part of the association. How much time you contribute is entirely up to you, and we would love to have some new people in the group – the more we are, the more we can do. My own term as President of the Association ends this September and I won't be running for a second term so that I can focus on family and work. It's been
fun, challenging, and exciting hearing from you, connecting with you, and carrying your voices to the Board of Governors. I'll miss it but I want to step aside for someone who can give the position the time it deserves. If that sounds like you, and you want to learn more about what's involved, feel free to drop me a line or join us at the general meeting on September 20th. Read more here. Thank you for letting me represent us,
Sunil Sarwal, president@nscadalumni.ca
