Monday Edition
Good morning, folks! Happy Monday! Now, I know what you’re thinking, surely the SDC is back to normal programming? Well, not quite yet. We figured the team deserved the public holiday off as well, surely you all agree with that? 😉 Don't fret though, riddles will be back on Wednesday, so get ready for some brain training - hopefully you've been doing some over the break!
Now, most of the SDC team will be back in the office tomorrow, hopefully feeling very refreshed from the Christmas break and ready to take a deep dive into everything we have planned for you in 2023. If you need a reminder, we shared an article at the end of last year on what you can expect from us in 2023. If you didn’t get a chance to take a look, you can read all about it here. We are so excited for the year ahead. It will, without a doubt, be our biggest year yet.
Enough from me though! What’s happening across Australia and around the world today?
-
Most older Australians don't live in aged care facilities and these policy blind spots mean most of you probably live in a community that isn’t age-friendly.
-
Australian women are ignoring health warnings linking alcohol with breast cancer. ‘I take it with a pinch of salt.’
-
A Woolworths delivery driver has crashed into the roof of one customer's home, with onlookers calling it ‘embarrassing’ and ‘careless’. See what happened here.
-
A professional cleaner has revealed what NOT to buy at the supermarket, claiming she can save you time and money.
-
A former flight attendant has revealed the one mistake you should never make on a flight and it turns out, a lot of us do it.
-
Warning, members, this story may be upsetting for some readers: A young boy is claiming to be a reincarnation of a dead woman, and the proof the child has is out of this world.
-
Eating healthily is extremely challenging with the current cost of living, but these six tips are game-changing.
-
One Queensland couple's heartbreaking mistake cost them $860,000 and they want to make sure no one else falls victim.
-
People are furious with this Chemist Warehouse employee who has revealed the ‘secret’ $20 budget dupe of a $65 ‘age-rewind’ beauty favourite.
-
A woman has used a very unusual anti-theft ‘hack’ to figure out if someone was stealing her food. Did she take it too far?
-
Finally, we know the New Year is well and truly here, but we are still in the festive spirit. We thought you would all love these ginger linzer biscuits. They’re the perfect partner with your morning or afternoon cuppa.
And that’s a wrap of today’s news, folks! Not a bad wrap for the first Monday of 2023, if we can say so ourselves. We have plenty more in store for you below, including a tricky trivia question, a hilarious ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment thanks to member @Deniseb59 and an incredible ‘Picture of the Day’ thanks to member @Big Al!
Of course, we have all the usual games and puzzles for you to enjoy while the team is on leave, including our 3x3 Word Thread, Word Pairs and Abbreviation Game for some fun brain training? We also have our classic games, including Word Association Game, Rearrange, Add or Subtract Word Game! Keep a Word, Drop a Word Game, and Can you name 5? As well as our Sudoku puzzles, OzGrid and OzWord. And our card games, including Solitaire and Blackjack.
As always, members, stay safe and happy reading!

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment is a very funny Christmas memory shared with us by member @Deniseb59! Although Christmas is over now, it’s still only the second of January so we figured we could still throw this memory in! Here’s what @Deniseb59 shared, ‘My memory of Christmas is my grandson going berserk with all the sugar they had eaten. If only that energy could be harnessed, it would have powered our place for days!’
Haha! My, oh, my, there’s no denying we all eat a little more sugar around Christmas and New Year’s than any other time of year, but enough sugar to power the house for days?! That’s something else entirely! It sounds like it would have been a lot of fun (but very tiring). Thank you for sharing this gorgeous memory with us, @Deniseb59!

Spectacular Irrawaddy Sunset
My, oh, my, I just love our photography forum! Every day, so many of you share incredible photos and I just love looking at them all. Today's photo of the day was taken by member @Big Al, here's the caption he wrote alongside the photo, 'The Irrawaddy River in Myanmar, home to the famous Irrawaddy dolphin, is also the home and back yard of thousands of Myanmar people who rely on it for
transport, agriculture, food and unfortunately all too often, garbage disposal. It is also famous for its spectacular sunsets, and we were lucky to capture this multi-layered sunset on our cruise.'
Wow. I'm speechless! Thank you so much for sharing this with us @Big Al!
