NEWS UPDATE30 August 2024 Publishers noteI mentioned before that I sometimes struggle with deciding which news and stories to publish, and which to leave out. While Marine Business News primarily focuses on the recreational marine industry, I have increasingly been contacted to share news about larger commercial vessels for reasons that are not entirely clear. Initially, my inclination was to avoid publishing them, and for the most part, I have. However, I recall a story I heard many years ago that mentioned something along the lines of how developments in Formula One racing ultimately benefit the everyday cars you and I drive today. At times, these stories involve information about advances in on-water technology, such as investments in alternative fuels or energy production, among other subjects. I don’t believe our industry is so insular that it doesn’t want to learn about what others are researching, developing, and testing. While large commercial shipping cannot be compared to Formula One racing, the money, efforts, and investments certainly create interest in what they are doing. And you never know what we can learn. Every story we publish is categorised, allowing our readers to search through our now over 3,600-story strong library. A couple of months ago, we added a category called "shipping," and this is how we will tag these stories that we feel could be of interest to our more inquisitive readers. Two stories typical of this appear in this week's news: one regarding a cargo ship fitted with an advanced Wind-Assisted Propulsion System, and the second about a vessel operating a dual-fuel engine capable of running on ammonia.
