Saturday Edition
Good morning, members, and welcome to October! We can’t believe how fast this year is flying by, can you? Where did the year go? Oh, how we love this month. The flowers are blooming, the weather is getting warmer, and Halloween is just around the corner! Do you have any exciting plans for this month? This is the month to get out and about! I (Vella) will maybe get back to the habit of jogging in the morning for some cardio as the weather becomes more forgiving. How about you?
Now, let’s get into today’s activities, starting with the answer to yesterday’s riddle! So, what was it again?
How many pieces of cutlery are in a drawer if all are knives except two, all are forks except two, and all are spoons except two?
Did you get it? The answer is…three! One knife, one fork, and one spoon. That was a tricky one, wasn’t it? But a few of you managed to get the answer correct! So, if you did, pat yourself on the back and head further down in the newsletter for your well-deserved shout-out.
Let’s move on to our next segment for the day, ‘What Would the Grandkids Say?’ Today, we’re taking a look at the term ‘bop’! This term means a really good song or beat. When the song is really good, it gets people moving and dancing, and that’s when you know it’s a bop! They’re the kind of songs that get stuck in your head and make you want to dance! So next time you listen to music with your grandkids, see if you can spot a bop!
Oh, one more thing before we get into the news, check out today’s ALDI Special Buys! There are a bunch of goodies on there. So don’t forget to browse them!

For today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment, we have a lovely memory from member @Loucon. ‘In the street where I grew up, all families knew each other, and kids referred to adults as Auntie/ Uncle/ Mr or Mrs. After tea, the kids (sometimes up to 20) ranging in ages 2 - 16 years old, would play and the Mum's mainly, would gather & chat. The older children always watched out for the young ones. We could also wander in & out of neighbours' homes (doors unlocked) and just yell out to announce our visit. The adults also had no qualms about disciplining us (never smack). “I'll tell your Mum. & Dad when they get home" was a threat that would keep us well-behaved.
It was a caring, safe, family environment. I loved my childhood.’
This is such a nice memory. I'm sure you have many happy memories of growing up in that community. Aunts, uncles, and neighbours all help to raise the kids – it sounds like a beautiful place to grow up. I miss having this connection with my neighbours. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, @Loucon.

Wow! This close-up shot of native bees is incredible! I love how you can see the different colours and patterns on their little bodies. We love all the close-up shots in the photography forum. They allow us to appreciate the intricate details of these creatures. Keep them coming!
