NEWS UPDATE07 March 2025 Publishers noteJust don’t do it. That is the message loud and clear from a myriad of authorities to anyone considering boating in the path of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. These are extraordinary circumstances, and valuable resources should not be diverted to assist those who have failed to act responsibly. Most of our industry members in the path of Alfred have been working hard to get everything secure for his impending arrival. Personal safety has to be paramount, and we wish all of our industry family in SEQ and Northern NSW the very best for them, and their families over the coming days. Last week, I had the honour of attending Captain Cook Cruises’ 55th birthday celebration—a belated 50th anniversary event that was postponed due to COVID. I was impressed by the family ingenuity, passion and unity, the current owner’s determination to honour and maintain brand and continue its legacy, and the drive and determination of the current loyal and loving team to maintain and carry the brand and products into the future. Today marks the closing date for entries in the 2025 Marina of the Year Awards. If you have the chance to enter, take it. Meanwhile, the Auckland Boat Show kicked off yesterday, with late reports indicating a fantastic opening day. Best wishes to everyone in the path of Alfred. Your health and safety—and that of your families—must remain the priority. We look forward to reconnecting with everyone once this unwelcome event has passed.
