Friday Edition
Good morning members, and happy Friday! It’s marvellous to see you all here this morning. How was the first week of 2023 for you all? We hope it was a good one! As for us, it’s been a busy first week of the year here at the SDC, but it’s also been a great one. It was nice to be back in the swing of things after the holiday break, and we’ve got plenty of things planned for you all in the coming weeks!
A quick life update: I (Vella) will be a bridesmaid at a friend's wedding tomorrow! I’m very excited but also a little nervous as I’ve never been a bridesmaid before. If you remember, I mentioned losing weight before the wedding to fit into a nice dress. Well, I am happy to report that... I did not lose those extra kilos 🤣 (holiday eating, right?). However, the good news is that the dress is very forgiving! Phew! Do you know what I have realised? Don’t be so hard on yourself if you don’t meet your goals. The universe has a funny way of working things out in the end. After all, it’s how you carry yourself that counts, not the number on the scales!
Anyway, enough about me; let’s get into today’s newsletter! First up, we have the third and final riddle of the week for you:
At the playground, there are a total of ten bicycles and tricycles. If the combined number of wheels is twenty-four, how many tricycles are there?
How are you all going with this one? We know you love a good brain teaser, so have a good, long, hard think about this one and see if you can come up with the answer. If you think you know it, head over to our riddle masters thread here and submit your answer. If you get it right, we will give you a shout-out in tomorrow’s newsletter!

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment is thanks to our dear member @Fairanne12. ‘In 1988, I met up with my sister in Sydney for Australia Day celebrations with the Tall Ships in Port. We sat on the concrete with feet hanging over the edge, watching the spectacular fireworks on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.’
Wow, what a fun and memorable experience! It sounds like you and your sister had an amazing time celebrating Australia Day in Sydney. To add a nostalgic touch to the memory, we’ve featured a photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge fireworks from 1988. Thank you for sharing this memory with us, @Fairanne12.

A Kiwi sunrise
Oh my goodness! This stunning picture is thanks to member @Wayne Blair. They posted this photo in our photography forum with the caption: ‘Located at Te Awanga, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Te Awanga is a seaside settlement on the East Coast of the North Island in the Hawkes Bay province. Within half an hour of getting this panoramic shot, heavy rain fell. The bitter cold at the time was soon forgotten when I
captured this shot.’
Wow, what a breathtaking shot! The panoramic view of Te Awanga captures the region's beauty perfectly, and I can imagine how stunning it must have been to witness it in person. Thank you for sharing this photo with us!
