Decommissioning Forward Outlook releasedWe are thrilled to have recently released the Decommissioning Forward Outlook, our latest tool designed to support the offshore oil and gas decommissioning journey in Australia. The Forward Outlook is a first-of-its-kind, dynamic, interactive online tool that provides visibility into Australia’s offshore oil and gas infrastructure. Users can seamlessly explore asset characteristics and details for fixed and floating facilities, subsea infrastructure, pipelines, and wells. Additionally, the tool offers detailed information on upcoming decommissioning workload and project timelines for offshore oil and gas projects in Australia.
The Forward Outlook was developed in partnership with the WA Government and industry partners. The tool utilises a novel artificial intelligence (AI) solution that was delivered by Perth-based company rahd AI, expediting the development of the underlying decommissioning database. Webinar: Exploring the technology behind the Decommissioning Forward OutlookJoin us for our upcoming webinar with rahd AI as we delve into the novel AI technologies that power the CODA Decommissioning Forward Outlook. During this session, guest speakers Jake Stride of rahd AI and Cormac Dawson of CODA will discuss the development process of this unique tool, designed to serve as a comprehensive resource for viewing Australia’s upcoming decommissioning timeline and scope. We’ll also explore the full potential of the Forward Outlook, highlighting the depth of data available and its invaluable benefits for providing critical foresight in your decommissioning planning. D&A AUS 2024 & Intro to DecomA huge thank you to everyone who joined us in June for both D&A AUS 2024, and the CODA Introduction to Decommissioning course! The decommissioning and abandonment conference hosted in partnership with Offshore Network and chaired by CODA's Francis Norman and Shaun Sadler, was a tremendous success, bringing together industry leaders to explore key topics and advancements in decommissioning. We also extend our thanks to all attendees and presenters for making the CODA Introduction to Decommissioning course at Parmelia Hilton Perth a success. We look forward to developing these events further and announcing future dates soon. New Industry Advisory Committee membersWe're pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to our Industry Advisory Committee: Danny Woodall, Director of Operations at Chevron Australia, and Steve Trench, Executive Vice President of Operations and Technical Services at Santos. Danny Woodall Steve Trench As we welcome Danny and Steve, we also extend our gratitude to David Banks from Santos, who has been an integral part of our committee and whose contributions have been pivotal in shaping our strategies. Waste Disposal Pathways study underwayCODA’s Decommissioning Waste Disposal Pathways study is now well underway, providing a common understanding of the distribution, current status, and future potential of the relevant waste management facilities in Australia. The project explores the key challenges facing both the oil and gas operators and the waste management supply chain and identifies opportunities for future collaboration and growth that governments and industry can pursue. It was initiated with workshops that brought together representatives of Australian oil and gas companies to discuss key waste streams and future expectations, and the waste management supply chain to identify challenges and opportunities for improving industry readiness for decommissioning. By bringing together stakeholders through these workshops, we are facilitating crucial dialogue and partnership opportunities to tackle existing challenges and uncover growth prospects. The integration of key learnings with a waste facilities database and a review of legislative and regulatory requirements will culminate in a detailed CODA report in Q4 2024. We're excited to continue sharing updates on this important work in the coming months. NDRI (National Decommissioning Research Initiative) updateThe NDRI continues to do important research to better understand the impacts of decommissioning oil and gas structures on the Australian marine environment. NDRI at D&A AUS 2024We would like to thank all those who joined us at the recent D&A AUS 2024 conference, where Program Director Renae Larsen presented on "Understanding the Risks, Impacts, and Benefits of Decommissioning Options for Australia’s Marine Environment." During her presentation, Renae talked about the NDRI’s efforts to bridge key scientific knowledge gaps and ensure informed decision-making for Australia’s marine environment. She highlighted the importance of collaborative engagement with regulators, researchers, and stakeholders, and discussed how attendees could contribute to more sustainable business practices. In the same session, Dr. Darren Koppel also presented the development of a framework for assessing mercury and NORM contamination. The framework is a key deliverable for NDRI Phase 2 and is being developed in collaboration with ANSTO and input from an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) comprised of Regulatory and independent experts. Darren highlighted the importance of aligning this framework with regulatory requirements and adopting a conservative approach to risk assessments. New ISAB membersThe NDRI is thrilled to announce the appointment of three esteemed experts to its Phase 2 Independent Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB). Their extensive experience and dedication to environmental science will significantly contribute to our mission. Prof. Peter Macreadie Dr. Karl Bowles Dr. Sarah Gall Our ISAB members will provide strategic advice, assess research proposals, and ensure scientific rigor in our initiatives. We look forward to their invaluable contributions to our ongoing efforts in decommissioning and environmental conservation. |
