Caregiver Education: Infant Massage & Movement Class Hosted by Lauren Abelson, PT, DPT, NCS, CIMI® Tuesdays from 10:30 - 11:30 am Infant massage has been around for centuries, with benefits such as promoting bonding, reducing tension, improving body awareness, and supporting motor development. In this 3-class series, you will learn and practice massage techniques following the Loving Touch ® Infant Massage method. Classes will also include tips and tricks for supporting motor development at this young age. Lauren Abelson, PT, DPT, NCS, CIMI® is a physical therapist specializing in pediatrics and neurologic physical therapy. She works in private practice and as an adjunct faculty member in the physical therapy program at Rockhurst University. Lauren’s love for the power of therapeutic touch led her to also become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor. Saturday, August 5th This is an opportunity for new parents and extended family members (prenatal – 2 years old) to connect with others, who have a young child with Down syndrome. Meet other parents at different stages of the journey, while getting connected with the services and supports that Down Syndrome Innovations provides. This is a great opportunity to have your questions answered and to exchange resources with other parents. There will be an opportunity to explore our Lifelong Learning Campus and to participate in a facilitated discussion with other families. Breastfeeding & Down Syndrome: a Comprehensive Guide for Mothers and Medical Professionals This book provides comprehensive, evidence-based information for both mothers and medical professionals. The book is written in an easy-to-read style by medical experts and addresses everything from how to prepare prenatally to breastfeeding after heart surgery and how to transition a baby from tube feeds to the breast. Down Syndrome Innovations offers interdisciplinary, family-centered therapeutic services to promote long-term success to people with Down syndrome. The Pathways team includes an occupational therapist (OT), a speech-language pathologist (SLP), and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Our therapy team works by bringing together their unique, yet complementary, perspectives to help support skill acquisition across the home and community.
