As a General Practitioner (GP) in the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) area, we wanted you to know the Royal Adelaide Hospital has established a Long COVID Clinic, to coordinate care for people experiencing continued symptoms.

This email provides you with information about the clinic, referral process and criteria and provides links to information for patients.

 

About the Long COVID Clinic

GPs and specialists can refer patients with suspected Post Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), also known as Long COVID, to the RAH Long COVID Clinic. Specific referral criteria is listed below.

The clinical team will review the patient’s condition and symptoms and determine the most appropriate support and rehabilitation to manage their ongoing care.

This will include an appropriate treatment plan which may involve referring the patient to other specialist or allied health services within the team.

The RAH Long COVID Clinic has specialist input from CALHN’s Respiratory, Cardiology, Neurology, Pain medicine, ENT, Rheumatology, Renal medicine, Haematology, General medicine, Clinical Pharmacology, Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, Exercise physiology and Mental Health teams.

Who can be referred?

Patients who are able to be referred should meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years of age, confirmed evidence of COVID-19 infection via RAT or PCR
  • be 3 months post-acute infection with COVID-19
  • have persisting symptoms for at least 2 months
  • signs and symptoms can include new onset or persisting dyspnoea, cough, musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, neurological symptoms, persisting psychological symptoms, anosmia or olfactory disorder or any new symptoms/condition with no other explanation and thought to be linked to acute COVID infection.

The Clinic will accept referrals from across SA where there is no comparable service available. 

How do I refer a patient who meets the criteria? 

GPs and specialists can use the Long COVID referral form (PDF 174KB) to refer patients to the clinic.

Once the referral is sent through, the patient will be placed on a waiting list. Once an appointment becomes available, the patient will receive a letter confirming the appointment time.
