2018 Fall Economic Statement Rapid Policy Update:
|
On November 15, the Government of Ontario released its 2018 Fall Economic Statement entitled “2018 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review”, which provides an update on the government’s finances and announces commitments for the upcoming 2019 Budget.
The government is projecting steady, moderate growth in Ontario’s economy, with real GDP forecasted to rise by 2 percent in 2018. The Fall Economic Statement forecasts a deficit of $14.5 billion in 2018-19, down by $0.5 billion from the previous year. Growth is expected to be more modest over the next four years due to limited economic capacity, higher interest rates, and slowing US growth.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ONTARIO BUSINESS?
Our rapid policy update outlines specific commitments that the government announced regarding:
• Fiscal responsibility, government transparency and accountability
• Regulatory reforms
• Tax reforms
• Energy and electricity
• Transportation and infrastructure
• Support for key Ontario sectors
• Other issues

A strong and prosperous Canada depends on business growth.
|
2019 is a federal election year and during an election year, it is important that our 10 Ways to Build a Canada that Wins reflects the views of Canadian businesses - big and small - from across Canada. To do this, we have partnered with Hill+Knowlton Strategies to create a feedback platform to gather business responses on critical concerns as we head to the polls. Respondents will have the ability to focus on the themes that most interest them and provide input into what issues matter to Canadian business and how the network will project its needs in the 2019 election advocacy.

5 Minutes for Business
|
In this edition of 5 Minutes for Business, we examine how in order to remain competitive, businesses need to focus inwards and begin investing in and improving how they navigate mental health in their workplace.
With most adults spending more of their waking hours at work and with one in five Canadians experiencing a mental health problem or illness, addressing the issue of mental health at work is vitally important for all people in Canada—especially employers. Mentally healthy workforces perform better and create opportunities that allow for inclusive growth for all sections of society.
Our economy cannot afford to leave anyone behind, which is why we are moving from goal to action by implemented the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.

Dear Chamber members,
I would like to introduce myself; I am the new General Manager of the Ramada Trenton. I assumed my new challenge in May of this year and am excited to once again be back in Trenton. I was here 12 years ago when the property was branded Holiday Inn, when I occupied the position of Food & Beverage Manager. It is my goal to restore this properties profile within the community to what it was when I was last here.
In doing so, I am happy to invite all of you and your teams to enjoy a Las Vegas Holiday hypnotist show. The gala night features a full buffet, show and after party for $79.95.
We are offering Chamber members $10.00 off ($69.00) until Dec 1st for early bookings and discounted drink tickets should you wish to purchase them for your guests.
In Hospitality,
Joey Bélanger, General Manager Ramada Hotel Trenton 613-394-4855
