Saturday Edition
My, oh, my, members! Happy New Year's Eve! It’s here, can you believe it? I sure can’t. I’m not doing anything special for New Year’s this year. Mostly because I think it’s a bit overrated and I enjoy watching the fireworks and going to bed after! What an absolute hoot I am, I know. But for those of you who are going to be up partying all night, remember, nothing good ever happens after 2AM. 😉
I’ll be in your inbox bright and early tomorrow morning wishing you a Happy New Year, of course, but I also just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support this year. It has been a truly remarkable year for us here at the SDC. It’s been the first year both Jon and I (Maddie) have had the pleasure of working on this community full-time, and we have expanded our team drastically. We are so thankful for our beautiful team every day. Without you signing up to receive our emails every day and your support, we simply wouldn’t exist. I also just want to thank you. Yes, you! For your support. Without you signing up to receive our emails every day, we simply wouldn’t exist. It still astounds me that so many of you are happy to hear from us on a daily basis! And I hope you don’t get sick of us anytime soon…

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment is a sweet and funny memory shared with us by member @LadyMoonlight. Here’s what they said, ‘Myself and my brothers and sister grew up very poor (1950s poor, not today's poor). One of my brothers and I saved our money (washing bottles we collected and returning them for the deposit - South Australia) and bought my mum a Christmas gift. Being so young, we were so proud of ourselves. We bought her an expensive set of pearls! We wrapped the pearls around her neck, full of joy. What we thought were pearls, were Christmas tree decorations (the tinsel of the day). My mother and father were going out that night to a friend's house for
a couple of hours, and (as I was told many years later) my father said something like "You are not going to wear them, are you?" To which my mother replied, "Yes, I am." I was also told many years later that she wore them all night. She loved the "pearls", given as they were with love.’
Oh, this memory made me laugh! How gorgeous you and your siblings are @LadyMoonlight. Your mother was very lucky to have you all and I can only imagine her wearing them to her friend’s house with such pride (and maybe a few giggles too). Thank you so much for sharing this memory with us!

Yellow-footed rock wallaby
Wow! How incredible is this photo that was taken by member @Oldino? Here’s what the caption said, ‘Spotted this gorgeous fella in the Flinders Ranges, he was some distance away but he stopped for a second, then high-tailed off (shot on a 600 mm lens).’ What a photo and what a story! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all @Oldino.

Catholic holiday Saint Stephen's Day.
