Studies in Statecraft

Last December AP4D launched a new Studies in Statecraft series to showcase work that aligns with our mission of encouraging better statecraft to maximise Australia’s influence in a difficult, dangerous and complex world.

We're delighted to be launching the next two papers in that series on Tuesday 8 July, 12:00-1:30pm (Canberra time). Elizabeth Thurbon's and Oliver Yates' paper makes the case for a Clean Commodities Trading Initiative as an example of green energy statecraft in action, while James Bowen's report outlines how Australia can better align different concepts of security under a ‘green security’ umbrella. Click here to register for the webinar.

If you have a paper you think would suit this series, please get in touch at secretariat@asiapacific4d.com.

Our program

A new volume has been released honouring the late Professor Brendan Sargeant, who tragically passed away in 2022. Brendan was a key figure in establishing AP4D, with his advocacy for a more strategically imaginative approach to Australian foreign policy a continuing influence on AP4D's work. As a member of the Advisory Group, Brendan’s wealth of experience, his intellectual passion and the generosity with which he gave his time and imparted his knowledge were inestimable. The volume includes a chapter by AP4D's Tom Barber and Melissa Conley Tyler underlining the salience of his concept of strategic imagination. AP4D is proud to be part of his legacy.
