A NOTE FROM CODA CEO
FRANCIS NORMAN
I was fortunate to attend the SPE Offshore Europe exhibition and conference in Aberdeen recently, as part of a Western Australian delegation. Spending time in another market, speaking with those who live and work there, and meeting regulators and supply chain representatives is always a grounding experience. Every jurisdiction has its highs and lows, and the UK market is no exception. While there, I also recorded conversations with several key individuals, which feature in our latest Plugging Away podcast episode. What stood out to me once again is that while decommissioning is a global industry, activity naturally ebbs and flows from region to region.
Being closely engaged in a single market makes its cycles very tangible. But from a broader perspective, companies able to operate across jurisdictions can balance these cycles, investing where activity is high, while maintaining readiness to return home when work picks up again there. Right now, Australia is one of those active markets, and I expect that momentum to continue over the next five to ten years. We have a clear pipeline of work and regulatory time frames that provide certainty. This creates an opportunity to attract technologies and expertise from quieter regions, helping to build capability, prove new solutions, and ultimately strengthen the global decommissioning industry for the years ahead. - Francis Norman, CEO & Managing Director
Partner Spotlight: Centurion
Practical Support for Complex Decommissioning ProjectsCenturion has long been a trusted partner for decommissioning projects across the Asia Pacific region, providing flexible and responsive support to help clients carry out complex end-of-life work safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption.
Decommissioning projects are rarely straightforward. Each has its own challenges, which is why Centurion focuses on providing solutions tailored to the specific scope. From subsea tooling and cutting equipment to lifting gear, compressors, inspection services, and power generation, Centurion maintains an extensive rental fleet supported by technical expertise and decades of practical experience. Regional Reach and CapabilityWith operational bases in Perth, Karratha, Darwin, Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei, Centurion is well-positioned to mobilise equipment and personnel quickly across key regional energy hubs. This capability allows
the company to respond rapidly, maintain schedules, and minimise downtime for clients operating in remote or logistically complex locations.
Centurion works closely with clients to ensure the right solution is applied to each job. The company’s engineering teams can adapt and modify equipment in real time as project needs evolve, maintaining progress and safety across changing conditions. This flexibility, combined with a large and diverse fleet, has established Centurion as a reliable partner on complex decommissioning campaigns. Proven Delivery Across the Asia PacificA recent example is Centurion’s involvement in a major subsea pipeline decommissioning campaign in the Gulf of Thailand, one of the largest of its kind in the Asia Pacific region. Working
alongside a leading subsea contractor, Centurion is supplying cutting and recovery tools, workshop cabins, and skilled personnel to support the safe and efficient removal of more than 335 kilometres of ageing subsea pipeline. The project demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver at scale and under pressure, with all equipment mobilised to meet strict offshore timelines.
